My GPU has also started whining at full load, which it hadn't done before I started folding on it.

I had to bump up my vcore a bump or two just to keep my rig stable crunching certain projects. I dont think it was degrading like some say, just that some projects are very intensive and sensitive.

As for GPU whining, my 460 sqeals like a stuffed pig when OC and folding. But when gaming or crunching at same OC, no noise at all except for the GPU fan. You couldnt hear my GPU running before I water cooled the rest of my rig, now it is twice as loud under load than anything else in my rig.

Part of the reason why I am thinking of upgrading to a 560-580 and putting it under water. Then leaving my 460 for phx card on air. The GTX 460 TOP in my sig rig looks too good to remove the shroud, and it is a non reference card.

Yes, some projects are very sensitive. I can't remember for the life of me what they are, but I've had some where the OC has been stable, but the projects kept returning computational errors because it didn't like the OC. I stopped crunching that project, because what good is a 460 unless it can be OC'd?!?! I've never had an issue with my 460s crunching, even with an OC up to 880, just the fans are ridiculously loud. When I get more monies and after i fund a second BOINC rig, I think I'm going to seriously look into some water cooling, have to see how the budget holds up unfortunately :-/

King, I know it is good tobeking and all that, but using a 460 as a physx card!? You know with a 560-580, you don't need a physx card, and from my understanding any card over a 2xx doesn't really make a difference in physx...so use that 460 for crunching 24/7 no physx!!

Umm, if your 460 is singing, it may be a bad 12v PCIe connector or weak power supply. I discovered my 460's were very sensitive to the 12v when one was singing and turned out to be a 12v PCIe connector pin had pushed out and wasn't making good contact.

Aqua is one project that always seemed to give me troubles with my CPU OC. GPUgrid gave me a failed WU or two. And I know it is not needed for physx, but gives me a reason to upgrade and keep it going lol

I used to have an OCZ 700W POS I mean PSU. It did the same squeal with it as it does with my Antec PSU.

Its not the fan bearing. Only time it does it is when I am folding. At stock clocks, the squeals is a lot lower pitch and sounds a little louder because of it. The higher the OC, the more high pitched the squeal. I have a hard time hearing high pitched sounds, probably from running power equipment and concrete saws for years.

I had a similar issue with my old 9600gt. It would squeal only when folding, not gaming.

Looked online and everyone pointed to cheap voltage regulators on the card itself.

King, what OCZ PSU did you have? OCZ actually makes some pretty legit PSUs (and some terrible ones as well lol), just curious what model you had...

It's more likely that your parts had a preexisting issue that running BOINC exploited. If BOINC was the issue, who would run it if it breaks their stuff? I've been running BOINC for awhile and the only thing it breaks is my wallet.

It was an OCZ Stealthstream 700W PSU. It died while folding with just my CPU and my old HD5750. Woke up to a weird burning smell. RMA it, and the new one only has 2 PCIe 6 pin connectors. Why would they make a 700W PSU with the ability to only run one video card??
