high temps plz help

so i built my first rig and i decided today to get an h70 for it i set it up and tried to run prime 95 and then temps hit 95 in seconds so i tried to re seat the cooler and try again the same thing happens so i took the h70 back out and put the stock intel cooler back in and ran prime 95 again with the same results not even 5 seconds in and it hits almost 100 the set up is an i7 2600k 8 gigs gskill ram asus p8z68-v pro mobo

any ideas?

what voltage are you using to the cpu. also did you use thermal paste

reset bios to default

Clear your bios buddy because either you are getting way to volts or you don't know how to apply thermal grease.

i haven't touched anything is the bios but i will reset it just to be sure i used arctic silver thermal paste and put a rice size drop on the cpu then made it a light coat with a credit card over the top of the cpu

To little paste will not work either. Open Cpu-Z while running prime and see what the cpu voltage is running at under load and idle.

Don't spread it, just evenly press the block down and let that spread it out.

If your bios is still on auto it may be OC'ing itself and giving the cpu too much voltage.

ok so i set the bios to default settings the core voltage on idle goes from 0.7 to around .95 then when i run prime it goes to 1.12 then instantly hits 95c im going to take it apart and re do the paste again and see what happens

well it turns out i was putting the thermal paste on wrong i re did it by just putting a blob on the middle of the cpu like the video and putting the cooler on and its running prime now 15 min in and only 58c
