So... yeah... I'm wondering if there's a droid equiv. of an iPod touch that'll be able to run ICS? Anyone know? I want to try Android ICS O_O

I'd say any Android device with an 800MHz CPU or better is going to be comparable to an iTouch or iPhone.

My Acer Liquid Metal (800MHz) just got an update to 2.3.6 and it's Almost as fast as an iTouch 4. Maybe about 80-90%, somewhere in that ballpark. I've got about a gig of apps running at any one time though so its maybe a bit bogged down.

Android 4.0 comes out soon, I'd maybe wait for that, if it keeps getting faster at the rate it is for me you'll be able to pick up an iTouch equivalent device for 1/8th the price.

Thanks for the reply. I'm wanting something that is powerful like the iPhone 4S but a non-phone device, I'm wanting it to have ICS so I'll wait. When is ICS released? I wasn't sure.

Thanks. That's what I'm thinking of but I'm looking for something with a better quality display, higher PPI, a dual-core Cortex A9, and the latest Android 4.0 "ICS". I guess there isn't anything like that yet.

The Galaxy Note is quite nice and will likely be updated to ICS 4.0.

This is funny.

I don't think you can find a dual Cortex A9 on a non-cellular android device... besides a tablet. Plus, why do you need a dual core Cortex for a music player?

Yeah but it's a phone isn't it? Plus, it'll be way too expensive.

I'm not wanting it for a music player rather to test the Android (ICS) OS and play around with things a bit. I want at least a dual-core.

Unfortunately, no serious android player has gone after the iPod Touch. I doubt it will ever happen, since even apple seems like they may abandon the product.

The only real option is to try and get an early 2011 dual core phone on the cheap (ie ~$300). Preferably not motorola (since you may need to put ICS on yourself at first, and Motorola doesn't allow for that) This won't be that price efficient, but it's really all you can do for an "android iPod". Buy old phones and ignore the phone.

I think samsung has a 5" player that should be "competition" for a ipod touch.
