The only real option is to try and get an early 2011 dual core phone on the cheap (ie ~$300). Preferably not motorola (since you may need to put ICS on yourself at first, and Motorola doesn't allow for that) This won't be that price efficient, but it's really all you can do for an "android iPod". Buy old phones and ignore the phone.
So it seems, I don't really want to do that. I'll just wait and see if anything turns up or maybe try and find a good slate for a low price at some point.

Yeah, a link to it was posted above but it isn't that great in comparison to the iPod touch. (I'm not looking for a touch replacement anyway.)

Actually, Samsung has both a 4" and a 5" player that appears to be aiming for the iPod Touch market segment. The link for the 5" version is on the 3rd post.

As for having dual-core and all that jazz, good luck with that. I doubt we'll see dual-core in mid-range smartphones this year let alone seeing it on a $200 device. Amazon can afford to sell the Kindle Fire for $200 because they're expecting to make money off selling content. Knowing Amazon, the Kindle Fire's price is already at cost or perhaps even at a slight loss. Manufacturers who actually need to make a profit from their devices sure wouldn't be selling high-end hardware for $200.

Just a correction, the kindle fire is actually lower end hardware that they will be selling for 2 bills. its a stock offering from quanta, that made the playbook, but they apparently did some cost cutting.

It would only cost Apple another $20 or $30 to add the A5 to the iPod touch. I just think it isn't ready yet which is why they didn't update it. They really need to go back to IPS displays, too.

Seems like the Atrix goes for around $250 on eBay. Dual core, qHD. The screen is RGBW pentile, so its technically not as good as its "qHD" resolution, but having used the phone in store its really not that bad. The whites are really white, and black on white text is really crisp.

The dev community is very active though, and even if Moto doesn't push ICS to the device, it will surely get CyanogenMod 9 and likely other custom roms.

Thanks for the link, to be honest... I think I might get the Transformer Prime if I have the money before the iPad 3 is out, or both if I do have the money.

I'm thinking of selling my m11x off and doing the same. However, there is the walkman Z, it is the closest thing to what you want.

Just go kindle fire. The only iPod Touch alternative is the Galaxy Player.

Oh yeah? Oh thanks, it seems expensive though

Eh, that's a good idea. I'm not sure it is "Androidy" enough though, and I really want something running ICS.

I'm sick of my M11x... just don't use it, gonna pick a tablet up, the transformer prime seems like the perfect option

And that's the top end 64gb model, I'd expect the 32gb option to be at least $100-150 cheaper which when you think about it is reasonable.
