Thread Starter
Hey, I am getting a 8800gtx and was wondering later down the road if I upgrade my mobo and processor should I also grab another 8800gtx? Will I see a big increase in performance? What would the rates be equal too?

EDIT: Don't you guys read? I said when I upgrade my processor, motherboard, and maybe ram will it be ok to get another 8800gtx!! Yes I am getting a better PSU.

You're Processor might bottleneck them. and i doubt your 280w psu can supply enough power to those cards.

You would see a performace increase but honestly with new games like BF3, MW3 you wouldn't be able to run them on medium settings. I would suggest at least a gtx 460 for a budget man looking to game.

im sure you've read comments like this before, but i would honestly save up the money and get a more.. todays system.

that system wont you anywhere near the new games, sadly.

It seems that you are not receiving many positive feedback. Let me be a contrarian and speak with my own experience of 8800GTX SLI.

Much of my comments here (thread #7) still applies. Please read:-
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/654669-8800gtx-sli.html

Going from one 8800GTX to two will bring substantial and noticeable improvement. Two 8800GTXs are basically the same as a single GTX285. GTX285 is more or less like a mid range card now.

For modern games, 8800GTX SLI can still perform, especially I notice that the native resolution of your monitor is 1280x1024. (You are upgrading the PSU, CPU and motherboard. As you did not mention the monitor, I assume you are sticking with your current monitor, at least for the near future.) And 768MB memory is plenty for 1280x1024 and no worry about this aspect as well.

Take Battlefield 3 for an example, 8800GTX SLI can highly likely afford you Medium setting at 1280x1024 and I suspect you might even try the High Setting.

So, I endorse your idea.wink.gif
(My only concern is that you need to make sure the 8800GTX is in good condition.)

Unless you get them for a rock-bottom price I can't see the use in it. An HD 6870 or GTX 560 (non Ti even) is as fast or faster than an 8800 GTX SLI setup and uses far less power. The 8800 GTX can't even downclock in 2D mode so its chugging away at eight to ten times the idle power usage of one of those cards. They're between $150 to $200 dollars.

Having one for an interim card is one thing, but I wouldn't mess with SLIing them. I have an 8800 GTX that I dearly love and will never sell, but its been relegated to a back-up card for the reasons I stated.
