8800gtx SLI? - Page 2

The only thing why i would not recommend SLI 8800GTX is because of power consumption. As for performance, there are clearly people who have no idea what are they saying..

SLI 8800GTX can actually match or outperform a GTX460 1 Gb.
I am sure i don't need to remind you Anandtech benchmarks were SLI 8800GT was equal to GTX285 and in the later review GTX285 was equal to GTX460 768 Mb.

It does not take a genius to figure that SLI 8800GTX could beat GTX 460 768 Mb easy and be most likely on pair with GTX460 1 Gb.

Of course, i would recommend a single GTX460 over SLI 8800GTX, but just for the record, don't talk BS next time.

EDIT: i would probably recommend SLI 8800GTS 512 over GTX460 768 Mb, but not SLI 8800GTX.
8800GTX is way too power hungry for what it can deliver...

EDIT: Don't you guys read? I said when I upgrade my processor, motherboard, and maybe ram will it be ok to get another 8800gtx!! Yes I am getting a better PSU.
what Year is this?
Stop wasting your money bud. Thats no upgrade, Down the road to what? You can't even barely keep up with the new games with those cards. The 8800 is Outdated. 6 Years old now to be exact. It had 112 Stream Processors. two of them would barely yield the performence of a gtx260(216 SP). Hell I wonder if 3 of them would be as fast as my GTX460(336SP). Just Get one decent single card, the GTX560Ti(384 SP) is a good mid range card, or a GTX 470(448 SP) can be had for as low as $160 here.

DID YOU READ WHAT I JUST WROTE IN THE PREVIOUS THREAD?

SLI 8800GTX will destroy GTX260 and be as fast or slightly faster than GTX460. Learn your facts before speculating.

I think it really depends on how much you are going to spend on EVERY THING. So how much are you paying for the card? I am guessing its used. How much would you be paying to upgrade all of your parts? It might just be worth it to something powerful instead of spending money upgrading just about every part in your computer. I used to have a 9800GTX+ SLI set up. I RMA'ed them and got back 2 GTX 260's. 9800gtx is a little better then 8800gtx, they scale a hell of allot better then the 8800gtx. You should be able to find a 9800gtx+ at most $70 used.

8800gtx takes allot of power. Before I had 9800gtx SLI I had 1 8800gtx and they run hot. 55-63 idle and 80-90c heavy processing. It can heat up your room fast. Make your air conditioner work hard and takes allot of power. 9800 40C idle 55-70C processing.

This would be comparabe to.... SLI GTX460's.. without DX11

Forgot to mention.. this is power consumption, 460 is about twice as powerful.

Edit:

The 460 1gb is actually about spot on, power consumption and performance. I got 560 and 460 comparison tabs mixed up.

nevermind, these cards are so old and inefficient there is no comparison to be made.

I would say just sell the 8800GTX when you upgrade and get a DX11 card. You can even land a GTX460 or HD5850 really cheap used these days. I say that your best bet.

Not quite a pair of GTX460s, but certainly on a par with one of them. If you can find a second one at a really good price, it's worthwhile as a medium term solution.
However, if you have to pay anything over $50 for the second 8800, it's not worth it, you'd be better off hunting for something like a GTX460 or similar and SLI those.

Edit: Used GTX460s come in under $100, and are great cards.

Don't waste your time on old tech like that, the 8800GTX's where great for their time but wouldn't cut much mustard with modern titles unless you really are trying to scrape together a system with a very small budget, i can't see it being at all viable.

Get yourself a modern day DX11 GPU mate, which would truly be appreciated by a modern CPU/Mobo/Ram.

I dont think you have to buy 8800 GTX, today 250 GTS (9800GTX+ rebranded) or a 450 GTS or a 460GTX are cheap, so you can get better performance for less money.
