Could it be possible to undervolt the NB?
What aftermarket heatsinks would be compatible with the UD3?

Never tried to undervolt it. It works fine with decent temps. I know people have replaced the push pins with other hardware, I also know that the washer trick works well.

I would assume there is a universal cooler out there that would fit it but don't know, I kept mine stock smile.gif

What do you call decent temps?

I currently under-volted it to the minimum allowed, which is 0.885v or so, can't quite recall, passed 2 hours of Prime95 blend and a day of gaming. Strangely, there was, if any, a very small temp decrease.

My UD3's NB get's in the upper 50's(c) during winter, low to mid 70's during summer when its 90f(32c) in my apartment. Those are peak temps.

Right now in a 21c room(70f) The NB is idleing at 27c(80f) and was peaking at 57c(134f) during a long session of BF3.

I feel the temps my UD3 get's are great considering the situation I ask it to perform. It's never given me any bit of trouble so I don't mess with it.

It seem's that most of the 990FX boards run a little warmer than other AMD boards, I wounder why?

AFAIK the UD3's are the hottest of the 990FX, even the lower quality Asrock ones are way cooler.
Those are pretty much the same temps I get with my current OC, considering it was around 38C here, my NB peaked 64C yesterdays while gaming.
Though I still think it too hot due to a improper HS:

I wouldn't call it improper. Seem's to be adequate to me.

Question I was wondering about anyone not running stock, ive also noticed voltages dont make much of a differance in NB temps on my GA-990FXA-UD3, however, I have had massive trouble running any overclocks using NBx or HTx (x13 being the max, x11is default, and i can run x12 with some settings). Anyone thinks this could be reason for it ?

First, are you sure your raising the right value? CPU-NB reside's inside the CPU.

I have never had a reason to overclock the Physical NorthBrdige chipset on an AMD, Only the CPU-NB, and I never use the HT to oc. maybe some one else could offer some assistance.

Yuh i was referring to CPU-NB (I know its located phisically @ CPU I must have expressed myself wrong, I was asking if the fact the NB, by heating up badly, could cause CPU-NB problems, I have learned this on a much older model then my platform and this wasent made that way at the time. Concerning OC by CPU-NB, its not viable for getting high clocks on FX from what i have seen and experienced yet but I get massive performance gains playng with it and keeping reasonable OC's. But doing so HT needs to follow same multiplier. Well thanks for he input, I get from your reasoning that it wouldn't affect it, anyone else can confirm this ?

I may be mistaken but I think the NB is only responsible for a few tasks, The main one is the PCI slot's and such. Perhaps GPU performance is related to the temp? Faster GPU = more bandwidth used... Not 100% on this would have to do some reading.
