2 Workers out of 4 stopped in Prime95

What does it mean when two out of my four workers stopped in Prime95?

1st core: 2 tests in 3 minutes - 1 error
4th core: 6 tests in 7 minutes - 1 error


Probably was running for fifteen minutes, any ideas? I haven't got my system stable for over two years now. Obviously, my cooling sucks + the fans I use are terrible (and to top it all off, the radiator gets hit by fans...).

Sure the above is pretty obvious, but I've got my system stable for over 24 hours on prime95. It was solid, and I just don't know the basics. Typically when Prime95 fails it's a BSOD... and I don't know what that means (probably NB/memory + voltages dealing with the two). This time what is the error?

means your slightly unstable, Prime 95 will BSOD if the system is really unstable, the workers will error if its unstable but not enough to cause the system to BSOD. a small bump in Vcore should fix this.

if your finding that you have increased the Vcore a lot and nothing is improving try another voltage related to memory or northbridge.

When testing with Prime95 (in my experience) a "Worker has failed" error is usually either a lack of Dram voltage or CPU/NB voltage.

BSOD is usually lack of Vcore.

These are my BIOS settings, and thank you for clearing the crash out:

I didn't go over 51*C (usually never over 59*C with any OC I do) (probably like 72*F in my room)

1.5v CPU
1.375v CPU/NB
CPU VDDA 2.55
HT 1.2
NB 1.23
SB 1.2

DRAM VOLTAGE 1.67V (advertised 7-8-7-24-2T @ 1.60v, and I'm running at 8-9-8-25-2T today to try it out)

CPU LOADLINE CALIBRATION -DISABLED
OVERVOLT (forgot what it's called hehe) - DISABLED

ENABLE CLOCK TO ALL DIMMS - ENABLED (I have 2/4 memory slots filled though, any ideas?)

That usually means you are close to being fully stable.
Bump the vCore slightly. thumb.gif

edit: I am not sure about AMD Chips, how fast are your aiming for, whats your CPU speed settings at? 1.5V doesn't sound that "safe", My i7 930 does 4.2Ghz at 1.41V and 1.45V for 4.4Ghz. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the red team can clear things out for you. Sorry man frown.gif

I don't have my LCD poster, so I never know what my voltages read :X

Also I heard my board has this gnarly vdroop, and I heard CPU VDDA voltage is affiliated with it. Also there is an option called Load Line Calibration, and I have no idea what to do with that wink.gif

I run with LLC on Full with CHIV, which in your case will really boost your loaded Vcore value (watch for this if you try it). Up side would be it allows a slightly lower Vcore setting in bios (better for everyday use) and if you meant CPU Spread Spectrum on a CHIV it would be Disabled.

What's the NB Freq? Memory Freq? Might be helpful to post a snip of CPUZ showing both the CPU and Memory tabs.

Load Line Calibration will increase your voltage under load. It is generally good for overclocking as you can boot and run normal tasks with lower voltage, but when the CPU is under load or stress it ups the voltage to keep you stable. Many boards also need LLC enabled to compensate for abnormally large drops in voltage due to VDroop.

You should bump up CPU-NB freq to help stabilize. Also For each 10% you increase the CPU/NB speed, memory bandwidth is increased 3-4% and latency is reduced 3-4%. The minimum for RAM is 3x the base speed, so for example 1600Mhz RAM would be base of 800Mhz x 3 = 2400Mhz CPU-NB, but that's just for the RAM, you'll still need to close the gap for the CPU. Anywhere from 2600Mhz to 3000Mhz at 4GHZ for example. I run my CPU-NB at 3250Mhz at 4.5GHZ CPU. You may need to bump CPU-NB voltage up to reach those speeds. Also bring HT Link closer to 2000Mhz, this will help stabilize the system as well.
