Not always... but 99% of the time true. I can't think of any retail games, but I believe many of the downloadable games are full 1080p.

Most games on console are rarely 720p in game let alone 1080p. Still impressed by how games look on such dated hardware.

The CPU is by no means "100x" as you garishly put it. The SPEs of the Cell are better suited for parallel functions like a GPU. Naughty Dog specifically dedicated SPEs to handle post-processing effects in the latter Uncharted games. The SPEs aren't some be-all end-all of CPUs, otherwise the likes of Intel and AMD would have tried to adapt it (but that's unnecessary with existing powerhouse GPUs). As a CPU the central core of the Cell is pretty much the equivalent of one of the cores in the tri-core Xenon CPU in the 360 as far as specs go.

And looks are subjective, so really what's the point in saying A looks better than B. Personally I think GoW3 and Uncharted look shoddy compared to Killzone 2 OR 3. And despite the lack of variety in textures Gears 3 looks pretty damn good too.

Ohh no, an xbox vs PS3 war :O

I nearly barfed when I played FFXIII on the Xbox coming from a PS3.

Playing through the single player campaign of BF3 (PS3 version), and I have to admit I'm impressed! I don't mind if the consoles stay another year or two. A good game is a good game regardless of the platform it's played on

It's not "100x" better at anything... If it were, Sony wouldn't have mad the decision to put a GPU inside their PS3.

Did you know the PS3 was originally intended to ship with just a Cell processor?

The reason it didn't was because it underperformed.

Get this: The 360 launched a year ahead of the PS3, yet the PS3 shipped with a GPU that was weaker AND a generation behind in terms of tech.

As a general purpose CPU, Cell is actually 200% worse...

It wouldn't be a very radical change like last generation to this generation was plus you'd have full backward compatibility. The developers wouldn't have to cry about getting used to the new console if it's not much different.
x86 is too high-powered and expensive... But you're right about that other bit and you may get your wish for next gen consoles.

No, most games on consoles are 720p with a few exceptions being above and below it.

Wasn't saying they should use x86 but keep whatever kind of architecture they're using now for the next gen to retain compatibility with what they have now. Like the games, development tools and so on.

They are now in a position to do just that. There are rumors that the next Xbox could use Power7. This gives them OoOE and backwards compatibility.

Xenon was originally intended to be OoOE but IBM couldn't deliver in time, so I think the idea to have future console iterations share components with the previous version so that developers didn't have to throw out all of their assets that they spent millions developing always existed there.

Too high-powered? You mean they consume too much power and put out too much heat for the console form-factor. Plus they can be comparatively expensive because x86 processors have a history of being more difficult to manufacture and being fabbed with bigger dies. But that in part is because x86 CPUs at the time were more advanced. Part of the reason the PowerPC variants found in consoles are so highly-clocked is because of the focus on power/heat-efficiency, but at the same time they had to abandon OOE for the sake of reducing die size (and they had problems developing a OOE solution).

If IBM delivers an out of order CPU for next-gen consoles it's unnecessary for the CPU to be x86 since IBM already caters towards power/heat-efficient designs. Plus the out of order execution alone would make consoles much easier to develop for, or perhaps allow developers to be lazier is the right phrase. Even now using modern x86 processors is probably not the best option in terms of efficiency compared to IBM's powerPC counterparts. Though there is always that one rumor that the next Xbox will use AMD fusion.

I really hope they don't go with Fusion now that Zambezi is here. Bobcat is too weak and Bulldozer is too hot.

Since BD doesn't work with Windows' current scheduler, a BD derivative may perform better in a console environment provided Zambezi remains as it is.

After seeing BD's performance, I wonder if they should just stick with POWER and get OoO implemented like they originally planned.
