Why am I not utilizing 16GB of RAM?

Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64x

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128387

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103649

Current RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231478

Music Program: Cubase 64x capable of unlimited RAM and up to 12 cores

I can only get to 60% in task manager, does this have to do with my MOBO and CPU being dual channel memory, and me using quad channel memory?

Thanks!

it might simply not be allocating that much.

Just because it can allocate ulimited ram doesnt mean it is necessarily requiring that much.

Also, using 4 dimms doesnt make it quad channel, you are still using dual channel

Press ctrl + shift + esc to bring up task manager, go to the Performance tab. At the bottom left make sure you have 16GB of memory recognized (in MB it should probably be like 16300 or something). How much memory is being used depends on what programs are accessing it. If Cubase only uses 60% of the RAM, that's all it needs to run properly. It will utilize more RAM as necessary.

you dont have quad channel. even though all 4 slots are filled, your only running dual channel.

as Dopamin3 said, your programs will use the memory as needed.

Right, I was wondering if this was setting me back.
When I was using 8 gigs of dual channel ddr3 I was easily hitting 90% in task manager, and I'm working on a much larger scale of projects.

Maybe my processor is crapping out before that much ram can even be utilized?

RAM = sample streaming, CPU = plugins/fx, essentially

its pretty damn hard to utilize 16gb.

so you were using 90% of 8gb or 7.2gb

now you are using 60% of 16 or 9.6gb, thats still a big jump.

I dont think anythign is wrong with your pc/holding you back, I just dont think your apps are requiring 16gb of ram, get memtest and test all 16gb to see if your utilization can max out, which im sure it will

Will do CJ, but I'm still skeptical of my processor, I think I'm getting clicks and pops because of it, won't get into the audio side of things but this test should prove that the ram is efficient

btw it's very easy to utilize that much ram, which is why my next mobo will have 8 dimms and eventualy 64gigs of ram
