ivy bridge should be coming in q1 2012, I think that will be worth waiting for more than sandy bridge E, which doesnt offer much over the current SB chips

Get a Gen3 (PCIe 3.0) Z68 board and get a 2600k/2700k during the Black Friday - Cyber Monday weekend. Then if you want to upgrade to Ivy Bridge you'll have a board that can use it, and take advantage of the PCIe 3.0 slots.
It's what I'm going to do.
Best of luck!

Its really up to you, Ivy bridge may be good and it could suck... look what happened to the AMD Bulldozer cpu's. If your not in a hurry, just wait.

Intel learned their Netburst lesson a long time ago...
Really they just will shrink the die and add tri-gate with Ivy. Onboard graphics are supposed to be on it, as well.
Not a completely new architecture so nothing should be screwed up.

I think the only thing "comfirmed" about Ivy is that they will be shipping them at the end of this year so they can say they're on schedule with their tick-tock strategy. So maybe Q1 2012, but maybe just H1 of 2012.

The Rampage series are strictly for the extreme high end i7's. The Rampage IV will be on the X79 chipset. If you're talking about the Ivy Bridge CPU's to be released soon, those will be on the 1155 socket. The extreme ones that will work with the Rampage on the 2011 will be late(r) next year.

Is this $3000-4000 rig going to do anything except game?
If so, there's really no need to spend that much unless you don't plan on upgrading for like the next four-ish years.
