RAID 1 on old amd board

Thread Starter
hey im going to do a raid 1 setup on my old crosshair 1 mobo and 4600+ amd x2. im not looking for speed as its going to be a file dump for files we need to keep safe.

my question is if my mobo dies, and i dont use a raid card, are you able to just plug in 1 of the drives and pull everything off then rebuild on another mobo? or should i buy a cheap raid card? like 30/40 buck card and do it that way or what. i i guess im kinda just worried that the mobo wont last as its old but its never been overclocked really far...

what do you guys think? i have 2 2tb samsung drives.

thanks guys

for raid 1 yes, you can access the data without the array.

for other configs, such as raid 0, you would need to rebuild the array on a different pc to recover the data

Correct me if i'm wrong, but if he is to use the on-board controller and it fails, I'm not 100% sure he will be able to access the drive as a boot device on another board with a different RAID controller. Now if he bought a RAID card and migrated that card onto the new board, then it will work.
