Announcing the first wave of HTC devices to receive upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012!

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid, on sale beginning today, is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.

lol @the people whineing their old phones won't be getting an official upgrade. That's like whineing about an old Win 95 PC not running XP with underpowered hardware. They'll just have to learn to root I guess. (happy HTC Sensation owner ).

Keep in mind the nexus S has got(or is getting, not sure if it's been released yet) ICS, and the majority of phones from that generation(1ghz snapdragon) are almost as powerful if not as powerful as the nexus S. People are asking a legitimate question, if(according to google) the nexus S can run ICS, why can't my HTC desire run it?
It could probably run it but a) not at a performance level HTC are willing to support and b) obviously they don't want to plug too much resource into older phones who people might be coming close to renewing contracts on.

Don't understand why the Glacier/MyTouch 4G isn't on that list. The G2 as well. Both easily powerful enough.

I blame AT&T-Mo.

Edit: First wave and not full list, nvm.

This is why I'm going to wait for the Galaxy Nexus, no waiting on upgrades, updates by the manufacturer. Though HTC is making some solid phones as of late.

Eh, good point... whatever HTC wants to put over the top will probably be a performance hog. I'll just wait for a port, there is an alpha port of ICS for the desire already anyways

As are all other phones with the snapdragon chip, honestly I think they are just doing it to force(well, encourage) people to upgrade.

I recall that the HTC desire did not have enough internal memory to upgrade to a newer android version. Correct me if i'm wrong though. I was disappointed in this as I also have a Desire.

Which version? Because devs have got sense 3.5 ports working just fine... not to mention there are 2.3.7 AOSP ports everywhere.

still crossing fingers for official release for the desire hd, but either way just give ics to the public and it will be on any phone that can run it.
