overclocking noob, please give me some helps (:

Heyy guys this is my computer's spec and im trying to overclock it and now i ended up with a lot of questions! So please help me answering them since im still very new to overclocking a computer
Thermaltake Armorplus case with 5 fans installed to the case
e6600 @2.4GHz stock w/ thermaltake frio heatsink
4x1gb corsair rams ddr2 800
gtx 460
p5n-2 sli motherboard.
So i bought this computer with the cpu Overclocked up to ~2.7GHz by using AI Overclock on the motherboard @15% and it was recognize by Core Temp 1.0. The CPU runs at around 42C idle (is this normal since i have an after market heatsink and its not OCed that much?). Then i tried to overclock it more by doing the overclock mannually and changed the FSB to 1300. Then when i started up the computer, there was a long beep noise with no pausing at all! The computer wont boots until i press the power button for like 5 seconds to turn it off and turn on again. Then i tried to increase the voltage of both the cpu and ram to 1.42V(cpu) and 2.2V (ram) Do you guys know what the beep noise indicates? does it mean that the cpu or ram is short of voltage? So i messed around with it for a while and still got no luck then i decided to Use the AI overclock on the motherboard @20% and still the computer makes the same noise again and i just press the power button to turn off and turn on again. Strangely this is what i found when i opened Core Temp 1.0.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us Does this mean my cpu is running at 4.8GHz @ 1.32V? Please answer my questions as im willing to learn more about over clocking. Thank you!

The first thing to do is learn some basics. Check out this guide here. It's full of great info and was what I used to OC my E8400 when I had no clue what I was doing. As for the beep, I think you just have your settings way too high. There's no way that chip will run at 4.8GHz.

After reading through that if you still have questions I'm sure someone will be here to help you out with all the specifics.

And welcome to OCN!

thanks blaze, after reading the guide, it answers a lot of my questions and now my cpu is running at 3.1 GHz ((: . anyways one last question; is it normal for my cpu to be at 65C after running crysis 2 for a while? and my heatsink is thermaltake frio. isnt the temperature is supposed to be a lot lower?? thanks!

I'm not sure how well that cooler works but 65C is still safe. Whats the max temp you get while running prime95? As long as you stay under 75C you should be fine.

Grats on the OC to.

yeahhh the max temp while running prime95 for around 2 hours is 65C lol. Anyways do you think i should overclock this cpu more as long as the temperature is under 75C max load? and the current voltage is 1.32V. thanks!

You can probably still get a little more out of that chip but I don't know how much that motherboard can handle. Just take it slow, keep an eye on the temps, and keep the Vcore under 1.4v.
