Dual Xeon workstation rig, I need input

Hey overclockers! So as always, when I hit the wall planning a new build, I come here to see what the experts are buzzing about I'm planning on upping the workstation game as my current worksation rig (in sig) is just not cutting it with an increased workload in video & vfx editing and rendering (almost tripled my work since beginning of the year)

before i was self-employed i used to work on a dell precision 490 with dual socket 3.2ghz xeons, 24 gigs of ram, and not sure what else since i didn't build it. BUT i do know that the throughput/breathability on that box was better then my current sig rig. So I basically want to re-create that 490, but make it better and cooler and kick more a$$.

And then, holy crap fast xeons are pricey! lol I've been looking at the sr-2 mobo for the dual socket solution. And Intel Xeon E5645 Westmere-EP 2.4GHz hexacore chips for a slightly cost-effective solution, pop some easy corsair low cost liquid coolers in there and would be able to overclock to a decent speed (3.6-3.8?)

So my question to you is whats good in the dual-socket hood? can I use an asus z8dna or whatever board instead? faster/slower chips? bus speed vs dual socket latency? pitfalls of a dual cpu rig? Help a freelancer spend too much cash here Thanks a ton geniuses!

The biggest thing is to get off ATI in my experience. Most true workstations are running Quadros, Teslas (and occasionally just a normal GeForce card). Many dual-socket boards won't let you OC rediculously far due to VREG overheating issues. The only major difference between the SR-2 and other boards is the SR-2 supports SLI/XFire where other boards don't always.

would probably be putting a nice quardo or 2 in the dual socket build but honestly the radeon 6870 in my current workstation is anything but a bottle neck. it takes 3dsmax work like a champ, no crashes. but i'm pretty sure the gpu is not helping with any number crunching in rendering or editing currently. lack of ram, threads, cores and clock speed seems to be my current problem.

Finnally a post about Xeons :] don't see many of these in the O.C. Community.

I definitely recommend picking up the new ones that will be released soon.
