They are for when you run out of ammo in BF3. You can borrow six more shots from your motherboard.

@ Sin0822: It seems MSI was trying to go for that M249 belt fed ammunitions look? Although the end is kind of round and short so maybe they are blanks. The bullet heatsinks are love it or hate it seems. Very polarizing.

My god, that's so cheesy i want to put on a record of Manowar's "Greatest Hits", and then go build my rig a fat ass longsword. Then, I would go out and get ripped at a gym, before I conqured the world and took this board as my price.

I keed. But seriously - *** MSi?

haha indeed, but you gotta give them points for trying, i actually don't think ppl should care about these PCh heatsinks, they will be blocked by GPUs anyways.

I am not trying to interject into your conversation, but there is nothing in common between the normal ASUS ROG XF-I and the G1 Killer series XF-I other than the software. All the ROG boards, with one exception the $600 USD Rampage 3 Extreme Black Edition all have Realtek Audio Co-Lay ALC889, same audio codec found on almost all GIGABYTE LGA1155 boards. Now the only board that actually has the real creative hardware, which includes the creative audio processor(C20K2), the 1GB DDR memory, the ADCs and DACs, the 5 Audio Amplifiers, and the high quality caps are most of the G1 Killer line(the G1 Guerilla has an ALC889 in place of the creative chip but same other hardware like caps and amps), and the R3EBE which had an almost identical IC list as the Killer series for the audio.

That is all i wanted to say. The ALC889 is also one of the only codecs that can actually run the Creative software and THX studio and so on. The sticker on the ROG board that says XF-I is covering up a Realtek ALC889 lol. I wouldn't be surprised to find the same on the MSI boards. That includes the Maximus 4 Extreme, the maximus 4 Gene-z, the rampage 3 extreme, the Rampage 4 extreme, and many more including the corsshair boards. The thing is that these boards are missing the AMPs, and the external DACs and ADCs and memory that support a Audio processor like creative's.

Now with X79 we might see the new ALC898 be used on higher end motherboards, and don't get my wrong the ALC889(108dB SNR) is the best Realtek chipset there is on the majority of boards. The ALC892 is actually lower speced(98dB SNR).

The whole audio thing going on with boards is quite confusing, but that is why you see higher end boards with ALC889 and lower end with ALC892 lol.

Now ASRock is actually using the Core3D recon chip that creative just came out with, on their X79 extreme 7 with an add-on card, this IC integrates more of those DACs onboard, and the next logical step for G1 is to use that chip instead of C20K2, but I am not sure when or wether they will skip and goto the next best.
Thank you for the clarification. I never really looked too far past the sticker so to speak. My Crosshair IV came with the X-Fi designation and my Maximus IV-E was marked with a Realtek codec so I was easily tricked into thinking one had the Creative chipset and the other did not. I would think for consistency they would of marked the Maximus as X-Fi capable and included the software. They must of decided not to pay the licensing for that particular board for some reason.

What kills me is that MSI went out of their way to burn Gigabyte on that PCIe 3.0 fiasco, and now they go and try to copy the design of the G1 Sniper. What the freaking heck, MSI? That's just tasteless at best.

Not on this forum board. Not in the way that I'm expressing disdain for.
