Try unlocking the shaders only. There's a script for that floating around somewhere on the interwebz, you'd have to look for it. You basically pull your stock BIOS from GPU-Z, stick it in the designed folder, run the script, and flash the edited BIOS. It won't overvolt to 6970 voltages, and it'll let you have voltage control.

Part Number: 6950PE52G ??

If so according to the Egg it's now a non-ref design, though user reviews claim it still unlocks. Yours did come with the dual bios switch yeah?
yes, it has the dual bios switch.

i tried this using RBE which loads my orignal bios and just unlocks the shader

Make sure your dual bios switch is in the #2 position (furthest away from the xfire connector).

Using the cmd prompt (as administrator), atiwinflash -unlockrom 0.

After that, atiwinflash -f -p 0 <name of 6970 bios>. This command should complete without issue, if it doesn't then there's another problem going on here.

You have to make sure the bios switch is in the #2 position though. If it's in the #1, it will not work.

If you can't boot with the new bios, simply switch the bios switch back to one and reboot. Then you can reflash on the #2 switch again.

NOT 100% GUARANTEED

While that REFERENCE Card should have the BEST CHANCE, like 90%+.

They Laser cut the GPU and/or Lock the BIOS shaders out on a certain number of cards and it sounds like you got one of those.

YOU are one of the UnLucky UnLockable Losers with that other -10%, sorry bud frown.gif

It's still a decent card ... but if true HD-6970 performance is what you're after you could try again, exchange that one and get another Diamond, or return it, Lie and tell them the card was too big to fit in your computer or something to get your money back ... and then buy yourself a HD-6970, or try one of the other HD-6950's with pretty good UnLock rates ... the Sapphire TOXIC (66-75%) or MSI PE/OC TwinFrozrIII 2GB (50-66%) cards.

i understand, just going to live with this until the next gen comes out. but in the mean time its goin under water cause i get really bad temps at full load(83c).

on the bright side it runs BF3 nicely

can i hit the 950+ core clocks while its under water?

I had trouble trying to flash with the 6970 bios as well. I then used the RBE procedure to edit the shaders, save the modified bios, and then flash with the modded bios (the 6950 modified, not the 6970). Then everything went well.

Did you get any type of error code while flashing or did it not complete and just close the window, or did it give you a success?
