Number Major Minor RaidDevice State
0 8 1 0 active sync /dev/sda1

2 8 33 2 active sync /dev/sdc1
3 8 49 3 active sync /dev/sdd1
4 8 65 4 active sync /dev/sde1

I finally got my raid 5 array set up. However, when I mount my array, it shows 7.2TB capacity which is fine but already 397GB in use, even though my drives are literally empty... frown.gif

Any ideas why there are already 372 GB in use? confused.gif

The space isn't "used" it is "reserved".

typically 5% is reserved, so 5% of 7.2TB is about 360ish GB, so it sounds about right.

typically you can set the reserve space, using tune2fs (but with raid, i'm not sure if this is the right tool to use.)

here's the manpage for tune2fs.
