4 Gigs still enough for Gambing? - Page 5

At current RAM prices, no reason not to be running 8gig if your OS can support it. You should be on a 64bit OS now anyway as well

8GB is the new 4GB ONLY because of the amount people multitask nowadays.

Although, I have never been bottlenecked by 4GB of RAM, even with 2 games running, 20+ tabs on Chrome, etc.

Either your system is seriously clogged up, or my RAM is epic.

4GB isn't enough for gambing.

4GB is enough for gaming, though.

There's really not much of a difference for gaming at present. As long as you aren't running a bunch of stuff in the background you're not going to get slow downs.

If you dont have a 64 bit copy of Win 7, just wait for Win 8.

Recommended amount of RAM for Skyrim is 4gb. Reccommended is for the High setting.

Makes me glad I got myself another 4gb of RAM. Sooner or later developers are going to be utilizing whatever you put in your system to a reasonable degree, and that time is coming sooner rather than later as some current games are starting to show.

Had 8GB for a couple years then downgraded to 4GB. I actually needed 8GB in 2008 because I played an MMO where I ran 10 instances of the game to advantage myself over other players. Used about 6.4GB back then, but when I quit I no longer needed the RAM and decided to sell it before demand dropped for DDR2. Bought it for $93 and sold it for $80 2 years later, nbd.

People forget that the OS uses more or less RAM by juding how much you have.

Though high setting could require 3.2gb of total RAM and Ultra could require 3.6GB of total RAM. Therefore 4GB could be the recommended for both High and Ultra. Just a theory.

Well there's certainly no definite for Ultra, but what about when people start throwing in graphical mods etc?

Developers seem to be hitting that 4gb threshold. It's not going to be long before more becomes reccommended. I've seen people showing Battlefield 3 using more than 4gb of RAM on this forum also.

I think it's a good thing if a developer optimises the game to use as much RAM as you can offer it if needed. I don't think anyone's going to need 16gb for gaming anytime soon but 8gb may be just around the corner.

Why get 4 when 8 is just as cheap as 4 was a year ago?

If it's 2 sticks vs 4 sticks then yes, otherwise not really.

I had issues running 8GB with 4 sticks, not so with only 2 sticks.
