i7-2600k running hot please help

Thread Starter
Hi so I'm a beginner OC and so I don't trust myself on OCing so what I did is use the AI Suite II to do the auto tuning for me to make my i7-2600k to 4.4ghz which is fine with me because that's all I really want but what is scaring me is that when I test stress it with prime95 and LinX i got over 90c which scares me. On idle its around 35C.

Settings for OC:
BCLK: 103mhz
CPU Voltage: 1.220
DDR Voltage: 1.5

Advanced mode:
VCCIO Voltage: 1.05
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.8
PCH Voltage: 1.05

Any help please? My specs are listed below.

You probably didn't seat your cooler correctly or used too much thermal paste. Try to reseat it.

That could be true but do you know any way i could make it fit? Because when I try putting the noctua nh-d14 onto the cpu, my corsair vengeance ram heatsink is blocking the way so i would have to shove it down and it seems like im destroying the heatsink or the ram itself.

Is the settings that I listed seem right?

I've never used the D14 but you might be able to move the fan that's over the heatsinks a little to the side so it will fit?

defo reseat cooler, we get 2600ks to 4.7 @ 1.45v and they run to under 80. also we never manged to mount a d14 with vengence ram, even if you move the fan the cooler still gets in the way of the first 1/2 mem slots. you need low profile ram

Its not the fan that is blocking it but the heat pipe itself.

Then you can't fit that cooler in there, NH-D14 is a really big one which requires space between the RAM modules and the cpu.

(Try rotating the cooler itself 90°, not sure if it is possible.)

yea... i am guessing you put the heat sink right over the ram and tried to mount it? if so the cooler isnt touching the cpu all the way. can you mount it facing a different way like up and down or remove a fan and place it on the other side (dont own a d14 so i am not sure)
Small wonder.

There's definitely something wrong with your coolers seat.

I had my i7 950 running with an NH-D14 with only the 140mm fan and only saw a 2c increase when compared to using two fans.

You shouldn't see any more than 70c under load with that cooler at 4.4GHz.

You can also move the fan over the RAM up a tiny bit and it will not impact performance very much, probably less than .5c, I had to do the same when I was using Corsair Dominators.

EDIT: I see that you wrote that the heatpipe is touching the RAM itself. If that's the case then it's entirely possible that only half the CPU block is contacting the CPU and that would explain your temps.

Either try another reseat or get some higher density RAM. Such as 2 x 4GB so that the first RAM slot isn't being used.
