Looking for a set of sub $50 Headphones

I will be mostly listening to music with them, but I will also be playing some games of varying types.

I listen to a little of everything. Most of my library is Rock(From alt and soft to Metalcore) and Electronic(Everything from easy listening/ambient to Rave/Industrial and Dubstep). I also have a sizable collection of classical and rap that I enjoy.

Closed Ear is a must as my roomies can be pretty loud and when I put my headphones on it is because I want isolation.
They will be used both out of my iPod while in motion and from my Xonar DG, so not needing an amp is a bonus.

JVC HA-RX900, use discount code newcustomer10 and they are $47.99 shipped. the best you are going to find for this price.

I have similar music tastes -metal sounds great, rap has solid bass, and they are great for gaming as well (BF3 and SC2). They have the appearance of open back with some faux grilles, but they do not leak sound.

I do like the 201s, but im looking for something a little beefier.
From what ive read and listened to on them they are fantastic, but arent quite enough.

I would get them, but I added the other $25 on the budget to get more options.

Yeah.
Ive got my eye on some RX700s or 900s.
The 500s sound nice, but the build quality increase from the 500 to the 700/900 is massive.

Definitley let me know.
Im leaning toward getting a set of 700s right now.
But the Sennheiser HD 248s are tempting

I'm no where an audiophile, I'm a gamer, who listen to music, watch movies and play games.

Those have been working for 2 years now and I gotta say, when on max volume I can watch a movie with a friend with that headset sitting on the table.
Okay, it's not the loudest way to watch a movie, but when it's 6 a.m. and you don't want to wake your parents, it's the best way

Here is my set :
This has a usb dongle enabling "7.1 surround" be aware that this is not really a 7.1 ehadset.$49.99
This is the basic one, without the usb dongle which is awesome too for it's price : $34.99

I have to add that those headphones are beef, I've got a pretty big head myself and they are perfect, adjustable, made strong since I've dropped them many times on my desk and they still feel sturdy.
The microphone is crystal clear and the sound quality is IMO, pretty decent for the price, in fact those are the best I've ever used.

Note : I'm pretty sure there are some fancy headphones out there, such as seinheiser or other big brands in audio. I would rebuy this headset if it would break somehow.

The cord lenght is long, the microphone mute and the volume dongle is awesome too.
I used them to cut the grass and I had to roll the cord around my neck because it's very long.

EDIT: An other pro : The microphone is retractable, which means they can look microphone-free.
In fact, first time I used them I couldn't find it xD I had to look at the manual haha

EDIT 2 : Seeing you've got a sound card, the normal version would suit you perfectly, for 34.99 I think it's a steal.
And 7.1 is just a gimmick , there is a difference but sometimes you hear footsteps on your right when it's not really to your right. I most part of the time disable the surround for gaming.

Ive already got a headset that I like using.
On the rare occasions I play with a team and need to be vocal, I dont care about sound quality too much.

Plus, those are definitely open ear, and I have yet to hear a gaming headset that doesn't sound muddy and distorted for less than $80.

I appreciate the input, but I cant justify buying a gaming headset of that quality for music.
Thanks though.

I have thoroughly listened to 3 sets of headphones in my life:
Sennheiser HD201 ($25)
Grados SR80i ($100, my friend's)
Beyer Dynamics DT770 Pro 80Ohm ($160)

I am no audiophile, but in my opinion the HD201 is much better in value compared to the more expensive Grados. It wasn't until I jumped to $150 range that I experience a significant quality difference. If you do some research it is clear that hd201s are most the balanced headphones under $50.

It is just my opinion though, I'd rather save $25 for tiny bit of difference in audio quality. I would save some money and get a pair for $150.

I also have a Fiio E5 amp, which you can get for under $20. Perhaps you can consider paring that up with this.
