Noob build advice

Thread Starter
So I will be building a new pc for Christmas and was hoping for some advice. I use it mostly for general use/browsing. Here is what I have so far, if there are any components that are better etc., please let me know:

https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...px?ID=13927611

I'm not sure about a graphics card, I may just go with on-board until necessary. The only thing I was contemplating playing is Diablo 3 whenever it comes out, and I don't know anything about cards or what it would require. Thank you

I think your link doesn't work.

But here are the keys to what you need:

1. If you only need internet browsing/general use, than even a simple $300-350 build using the last gen AMD X2 or X4 w/ on board graphics, simple case/psu and a HDD is all you need.

2. If you want to play Diablo 3 in high to max settings, you can't mix the two together. As you would need to spend at least a good $750 to get a decent system to play that game.

If you are on a budget here what to look for:

CPU: AMD X4 955 BE
Motherboard: AM3+ board that is around the $80 range
GPU: GTX 460 or 5770
Ram: 4 gb
Case: $35 one
PSU: Corsair CX430 or equivalent from Antec/XFX
HDD: 500 gb

This should handle Diablo in med-high settings.

I disagree. If your goal is simple computer use now, then there's no reason to spend a fortune on a computer. You could always add a dedicated GPU later when you need it.

From Blizzard itself: http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...rticleId=40446

The system requirements for Diablo 3 are blown away by most high-end last-gen systems, so a $500 computer should more than cut it.

EDIT: For example, this system bundle from Newegg would be more than ideal: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.752645 You'd just have to add a GPU when Diablo III came out.

Here are the components:

I'm not really on a budget, I want something that will last a good long while. I do more than simple browsing, but that is the majority of what I do....simply implying I'm probly not going to be trying to play battlefield 3 on max settings or be watercooling or something like that.

Due to the shortage worldwide for hard drives, I wouldn't buy one at the moment. Its not worth 220 dollars for a 1 TB when they are usually $60. I also know from WD that they won't be back into normal operations till 6 mths later.

Your best bet now is to grab a 60 gb ($100-120) or 128 gb ($200) SSD and maybe buy a used HHD off Craigslist/marketplace.

As for all the parts you stated, its overkill for internet browsing.

I guess if you don't have a budget stick with the i5-2500k and this board

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138319

This board is a fairly good board, and if you wish to OC in the future its possible too. Only down side is no SLI/CF support, but then doesn't seem like you need it.

As for the psu I would get something different, the one you state is the V1 of the TX650.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207013

This is all the power you would need to power that system, and it can power any single gpu on the market even the GTX 580, but I doubt you going spend $500 on a gpu.

I was basically wondering if this is the route I should go with each of these parts assuming I want an i5 and am not a huge gamer.
if i were you i just stick with the i3-2100T, it out performs/keep up with the last gen. AMD quad cores

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116394

Pair it up with a simple board like this:

if you not a huge gamer you won't need an i5 at all. the i3 is a sweet spot for many people. that wants some light gaming as well as regular usage. it is about $100 cheaper.

So I'm going to build this now, just wanted to ask one last time if all these individual parts are the best and work in conjunction with one another based on an i5 build.

Can you post exactly what you are getting? Did you adjust it any from the above suggestions?
