black screen at startup

Thread Starter
I'm running an asus a53s series laptop with windows 7 64bit. When i first bought the laptop i dont recall having this problem ,but lately its been inevitably annoying. Whenever i startup my machine, I press the power buttons, the LED's go on, but the screen stays black for sometimes up to 5 minutes at a time before windows loads. i have no discs in the drive, no external hard drives or flash drives inserted, no blinking cursor or anything, just a black screen to stare at. I'm running 4 gigs of memory and an i7, how can i resolve this? any ideas? thanks

is it after your pc posts? Ive seen some horribly fragmented computers that hang right where you describe, have you defragmented your laptop lately?

Are there 2 HDDs in the system?

if so one may be failing or have a bad connection.
