Cheap keyboard advice

Thread Starter
Anyone have any recommendations on keyboards? I just want a standard, no frills all black keyboard that feels nice, that doesn't look ridiculous. I like the second Saitek keyboard, but I don't really want an illuminated keyboard, plus it's kind of expensive. However, I could swing around $50, though its about the limit.

I also don't really game, so essentially I just want a great tactile keyboard. I'm not a huge fan of clicky boards or slim, etc. Thanks

i don't think there is such a thing as a high quality rubber dome for less than $50. For sure there isn't any mechanicals for less than $50

Just go to Staples/Future Shop/whatever and find one that feels good to you. You're not gonna get anything of quality for $50 (maybe you could find a used Cherry Browns board for around that much).

Ya, I was just hoping something might have stood out at a mid-range price.

Well, if you don't need it right away and can wait for a deal, I was able to pick up my Steelseries g6v2 for $55 shipped directly from steelseries. It a great keyboard, very plain simple looking with mx black switches.

I've heard good things about the Microsoft Sidewinder.

You dont wanna get a g6v2 if your gonna be using it for typing and what not. Its terrible for typing because of the black switches and wears your fingers out so quickly.

I think in your budget you can get a nice scissor switch, rubber dome keyboard. They feel better than regular rubber domes and are pretty decent to type on. I used to own a hp elite keyboard ($30 i think). Apple makes a good one too but im not sure about the price

edit:

Heres the link for the hp:

I used it for 2+ years without any problems and i enjoyed it. Just dont run into the wireless dongle and destroy it like i did.

This statement is 100% opinionated, keyboards are very personal tools. The 6GV2 is a quality keyboard. You could most likely try one out at a local Fry's electronics. It is a non-tactile keyboard though. If I had to get a brand new black tactile keyboard for ~$50 I would order this http://global.pchome.com.tw/?mod=ite...&ROWNO=37&tm=u. Reaper did a review on it here at OCN http://www.overclock.net/keyboards/1...reen-alps.html.

Its the greatest thing in the world.(This statement is completely opinionated) but its seriously worth a try to most people its the difference between a pentium 4 and a 990x.
