I7 2700k gaming build

Thread Starter
Hi I'm new here been reading alot and put these components down after researching for 2 weeks. Unlimited budget rig but going into overclocking litlle by little

PC 2700k Build
Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS IV Extreme-z this is still not pcie 3.0 but i heard it might upgrade after a bios change? is this true? plus ivy bridge compatibility ofcourse on the website they don't state these. I'm ok with buying a new board if ivy bridge is worth it in the future... I heard this is the best board for overclocking for the mean time.

CPU: 2700k 3.5ghz I7

RAM: mushkin redline 2133 16gb 4x4 2133mhz

Hard Disk 1 Crucial M4 128gb sata 3
Hard Disk 2 2tb sata 3 Black Caviar

Sound Card: Fatality champion by sound blaster or any other suggestions since I'm gonna connect this to a really high end home theater receiver pioneer sc-37. Will this output 7.1 through the optical cable?

Case: HAF X

PSU Silverstone 1500w

CPU COOLER H100 or top custom waterloop with apogee cpu block, 4*140 rads, dual 655 pump. (since the custom waterloop would cost as much as a single phase change cooler do you think I should practice ocing with the h100 first then switch to phase change later? and can phase change setups run 24/7 there isn't a lot of material on the subject in google and articles here date back to 2009...)

GPU Cooler: water loop or if I can find a way to freeze everything I would.

DVD writer plextor 24x

Video Card Radeon 6990 4gb or 590 gtx 3gb or 580 gtx 3gb, Which one should I get? I keep on reading articles that radeons crossfire architecture has improved and can beat sli by 50%...but loses in single gpu benchmarks... So I'm more inclined to go for radeon since quad gpu's would be in my end build when games start to catch up.

Custom waterloop setup which will cost as much as a homemade single phase setup.

CPU block swiftech apogee
Radiator 4 x 140mm
Dual Pump
Reservoir

Will the dual pumps be able to push water across 3x (4x 140mm) rads?

Will I be able to get to 5.5ghz or maybe just going straight to phase change is cheaper?

Can I phase change my GPUs also? or do I need a waterloop as well for the gpus, chipset, memory etc?

I have an unlimited budget but I want a bang for the buck. Kinda hoping I could get to the lower 5+ ghz with the H100... Then I wouldn't need to go the extra mile in a few months...

For gaming the best bang for buck is the i5 2500k

Also you won't need a 1500w psu that is overkill for that setup the most you'll need is 850+

Sorry I forgot to add that my fiancee will use it for Photoshop and multimedia editing as well. So I'm really set for the I7 2700k. I really need help in choosing the cooling options options in order to get in the higher frequencies to overclock this. Since the main game I play is starcraft 2 which is cpu heavy with some first persons like battlefield 3, call of duty on the side and offcourse the other games...

2slick4u Also you won't need a 1500w psu that is overkill for that setup the most you'll need is 850+

Will this be able to handle 2 6990's overclocked to the max an I7 overclocked to the max plus a dual pump water rig in the future?

Yea, I'd say go with the 2500k for just gaming, or wait for new cpus to come out. Also, thats pretty over kill on ram for just gaming, in both speed and amount.

As far as GPUs, Quad SLI 580s will be the most powerful, but if you don't have the cash for all 4 right now, I would only go with 2 and then get a next gen card later down the road.

Why not a 2600k if u were to need.the extra thread and save u some money its just 100 faster for the price id choose a 2600k over 2700k

A corsair ax1200 will do the job but if you really want the headroom than go for the 1500 that's your choice

I would wait 1 more week for socket 2011 SB-E 6 core come out if you want the best performance with unlimited budget. As for video card goes, I suggest you to get 4x 3gb gtx580 and run them quad sli for best performance and a 1500 watt power supply won't be overkill in this case.

I was thinking it's only $15 dollar increase in price and read somewhere here or on tom's that the 2700k sucked out all the golden chips from the 2500k and 2600k lines of products dunno might be an intel marketing strat but since it's $15 dollars more... Why not?

Can I get an adaptor to run gtx580 in quad for the extreme-z? i think it's max is tri sli that's why i opted for either 6990 or gtx 590 since quad singles won't fit. and price wise a single 590gtx vs 2 580gtx's seem cheaper? The video card area is one of the areas I can't seem to make a decision on.

Are there boards better than the extreme-z able to handle quad gpu's?

Oh btw reason I can't wait a week is because my cousin from pennsylvania is coming back here to the philippines for the holidays and I'd save a ton on taxes and shipping if he hand carried everything in the airport.
