2500k voltage help

Thread Starter
Hey there guys, can someone please help me out.

I just bought myself a new computer:

ASUS P8Z68-LX
GSKILL 9-9-9-24 1.5V
Sandy Bridge i5 2500k
Cooling: Prolimatech Genesis

Now, I have a couple questions:

1. When I set my cpu voltage manually to 1.25V it will turn red and tell me the maximum is 0.65V and I have recently flashed my bios to its newest version to see if this persists. Sadly, it does.

My multiplier is 45, so 4500ghz.

2. So, I leave my voltage on AUTO, and using CPU-Z I observe the computer under load and the voltage reaches 1.35V and is 0.95V idling. Is this unhealthy for my CPU ?

3. My memory frequency is on auto and its 1800, can I set it manually to 2133 ?

I thought of perhaps downloading a windows 7 overclocking utility and maybe try to set the voltage to 1.25V through there ? perhaps it would work, not sure what to do.

1. I think you are trying to set it manually using the offset voltage setting. Using offset voltage the mobo will add or subtract what you set to the cpu's VID. The VID on these chips changes depending on what speed it is running at.

2. That is speedstep and it is safe. It's actually a good thing because when your cpu is not under load it will lower the clocks and voltage.

3. If your ram is rated at 2133 then you should be able to set it at that. I would not suggest using any software to overclock or set ram timings.

I'm guessing that was a typo, either 4.5GHz or 4500MHz.
