i7 950 overclocking observations/questions

Thread Starter
I've recently made the jump to 4.0GHz on my i7 950 with 23 multiplier and 175 BCLCK. Here are some weird occurrences that I have observed thus far:
  1. During stress tests (Prime95) my desktop gadgets will crash. I get no errors with Prime95, though. I'm not sure what's going on there. This usually happens after the computer idles. This is most annoying when I wake up in the morning to find that I cannot get out of my screen saver because my gadgets have crashed.
  2. After 10 hours into a Prime95 test, it had a BSOD after I started watching youtube videos. I didn't see a 124 error though, so I don't know if that's voltage related.
  3. My anti-virus program crashed during a run of Prime95. Nothing else happened after that, there were no errors with the test.

My specs:
idle voltage: 1.24
load voltage: 1.192
temps: <66 Celsius on load
multiplier: 23
bus speed: 175
LLC: disabled
HT: enabled
Turbo: enabled (I cannot find the option to disable it on my mobo)

hardware:
i7 950
ASUS Sabertooth x58 (BIOS: 0505, iirc)
3*2GB G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL
-rated at 9-9-9-24, 1600
-currently clocked at in the 1400 range

The errors above started when I started running Blend tests. I don't think I noticed this when doing Small FFT's, so I'm leaning towards memory issues but am not entirely sure. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of the same tbh.

try running memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/ at least 6 or 12 passes. it's a bootable program so you have to burn it on a cd. if it passes then prolly just instability on the part of your cpu. I'm not really sure but I'm betting on a memory problem.

I'm also suspecting that the voltage on the ram is not configured properly. my corsair kit needs 1.65v but only has 1.5v default voltage on the bios. try checking it out also

What kind of results from Memtest86+ should I expect to see if it turns out to be a memory problem?

What bare going to be doing with this machine.

what are your other voltages?

Bump the RAM to 1.65. Also, your volts seem pretty low for 4GHZ, you mau have a amazing chip but most need around 1.25 under load for 4GHZ. Also if you don't mind me asking what temps are you seeing under prime Small FFTs?

What am I going to be doing? Nothing much really. Some gaming (Counter Strike Source, Starcraft2, D3 when it eventually comes out), some internets, programming (though not too heavy).

Everything else is set at Auto or whatever the stock settings are. I'm still rather new to overclocking so I try to touch as little as I can.

My memory says its is rated for 1.5V as it says on the DIMM. I'm not sure about pumping more voltage on it than it is rated for before I learn more about it. Can you recommend anything I can read?

Prime95 Small FFT temperatures peak between at 68 Celsius when my heater goes on. The range is usually between 61 and 66.

What's the exact model of your RAM?
