I can place one in my office at work, free power. Noise not an issue and it can fold 24/7 without interruption, also have plenty of battery backups biggrin.gif

I say the GPU is a better all-around prize. It is (fairly) current technology, and has lots of support by people around here for troubleshooting.

The server is kinda cool but probably won't net a huge amount of points per watt...

I would put it running in my cube here at work

The general, I would like this over that input is great...but I'd like more information.

Who has a solution like this? I saw someone saying that have a 2U that is possibly comparable. Give me some numbers...what type of points are you seeing, is it something you would much rather have over the card because of point:watt ratio. What other possibilities can you guys come up with within this price point. I've got the money to do this, I just want to make sure I'm putting it towards the right thing.

A 460 is nice. Yes, everyone can use it....but is it worth it at that cost? And bumping the cost to $250 allows for 560's....how do other solutions compare to that?

This is everyone's opportunity to help better the prizes...for the community...for the project...for the cure. Lets see what you guys can come up with.

That's two quad cores at 2.5Ghz, right? No OCing? Well, two quads on their own at that clock would struggle to get more than 5/6k... together, I would guess that they'd just about manage -bigadv... meaning ~28k PPD.

But I'm not too great with multi-CPU set ups.

I think that this is going to depend on the folder.

What if you were to do something to the effect of donating a prize of choice to the winner. They can have A or Z, and this would be dependent on the same factors as before. The niec part is, by doing this, you allow for those people with room for a spare GPU, to grab one of those, or for those who would prefer to house a CPU server shelf, to grab that instead.

For example, I know that at this point, I have no space for a GPU. For me, choosing the CPU shelf makes the most sense. However, if I had a spare slot, I would consider the GPU, as they can easily be added into an already running system.

On the other hand... a prize like the server shelf would most likely be more used for folding, rather than gaming or other things, due to the setup... which could also be a factor to take into account (I know that there was an issue not too long ago with a folding donation).

You make very good points, and I had thought of it but it was too simple of a answer tongue.gif 'Often the simplest solution is the best'. I was looking at the 'would most likely be more used for folding, rather than gaming' and that is a huge bonus not that I don't already trust our members to do the right thing. tongue.gif So we have more or less established that a majority would rather have the GPU, but maybe give but I'm looking for another option....what other things can we come up with @ $250
