Can't go over 4.0 GHz on my 1090t

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I'm new to overclocking and I don't know why I could not be able to overclock my 1090t over 4.0 GHz. Here is my system:

CPU: AMD x6 1090t BE
Mainboard: 790FX-GD70
Memory: 8GB (2 x 4GB) 2133 MHz (I know it is not the right memory)
CPU Cooler: XSPC Rasa 750

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you very much

Personally, I wouldn't go over that on that motherboard anyway mate.

4GHz with a good NB OC is plenty, and you wanna keep the voltages and power draw of that Thuban as low as you can on the GD70.

I know you've got yourself a Rasa, but the 790FX-GD70 and even the 890FXA-GD70 (and everything below them) were prone to VRM failure when coupled with Thubans and pushed on the OC.
The one that finally introduced better power delivery was the 890FXA-GD65, and there have been no reports of failure with that, and it's 990FX brethren.

Your Mobo however, just might die if you push it.

However, I should still ask, have you played with the voltages or left them on auto, and have you solely OC'd by upping the Multi?

As Evo said, that motherboard has a High fail rate with x6, I would not overclock at all.

thank you for your information guys. I couldn't be able to change the voltage out of that mobo. they have a software (MSI overclock center), but it always crash (brought me to a blue screen) when I use it. What mobo you think I should go to pair up better with my 1090T? Asus Crosshair V Extreme is ok with this? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

Remember, this is Overclock.net. Our motto here is this:

"If it's not on fire, clock it higher!"

There is no such thing as overkill.

Get a new mobo, first of all. The CHV is excellent.

I'm sure there's some excellent overclocking guides out there, but a very simple way to overclock your 1090T would be to raise the multiplier in 0.5x increments, then boot up into Windows and test with Prime95 (Small FFTs are best if you're just OCing by the multi; otherwise the Blend test will also heavily stress your RAM and CPU/NB) for about half an hour. If it crashes within the half hour, raise your voltage by the smallest increment possible until it's stable. Then push harder until your temps are passing 50C on the cores (Thuban has a temperature bug; the core temp reports are usually 8-12C lower than the actual temperature and socket temperature isn't all that accurate either but NEVER let that hit 70C...) or you hit a stability wall/don't feel comfortable pushing more voltage/are satisfied with your results. Also, try overclocking the CPU/NB (big performance boost). Same method for overclocking the CPU/NB applies except that you should test with Prime95 Blend and run some RAM stress tests; I'm stable at 2.8GHz on cheap air so you can probably get over 3GHz. Then when you think you've reached the perfect OC, run Prime95 Blend for 24 hours. If it crashes, raise your vcore or if that doesn't work CPU/NB voltage by the smallest increment possible until it's stable. If you start reaching unsafe temps back off on your OC a bit.

Saber tooth is a great board, I would recommend it if the chv was over the top for you. I'm only able to muster 4.1 on my 1100 right now, I have been slacking on my oc because of bf3...

You are missing an opportunity there, push your overclock and test it on BF3, LMAO.
