New graphic card

Thread Starter
I would like to play BF3 with a decent amount of FPS so I'm looking to upgrade my video card. Here's my current set up:

Core 2 Quad 2,4GHz
EVGA Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB
G.SKILL Ripjaws PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-21 Core i5 1.5V
Gigabyte EP45T-USB3P
500W Cooler Master PSU

I've looked over a couple of thread to find out that a GTX580 Ti should do the job, but if I pick up this, will I have to get a bigger PSU?

Do you suggest me to pick a top of the line video card and no additional RAM or should I take a medium video card and add 4 extra GB of ram. If so, what would be the best memory in my case?

Thanks a lot!
I'm looking to spend 200$-300$ on this.

Your cpu will probably bottleneck any cards that are faster than the gtx 560 Ti so if you want decent fps, you should look into upgrading that cpu too. So the whole setup would be:

2500k with some 1155 board
GTX 570/gtx 560/HD 6970/HD 6950. These cards will play bf3 at max settings at 1080p with good fps (given AA is not maxed out as well )

by alot you mean, $10?

955 - $125
990FX - $125
TOTAL: $250

2500k - $180 at microcenter
mobo - $80 bundled w/ z68 mobo at microcenter
TOTAL: $260

Intel has closed the gap in performance/price ratio. AMD is now out of the game in desktop cpus in overall.

I have a socket 775, changing the cpu mean I would have to change the motherboard! I changed a couple of months ago since it died on me. And I took one to support my Core 2 Quad... damn...

And I'm in Canada too

If you can find a cheap Core 2 quad, like the Q9400, or something like it, that would be the easiest CPU replacement. With a decent overclock, that would be able to drive you for some time.

Here's a link to the compatible CPU's for your chipset.

Oh well, click compatible products, and then processors.

I don't know what to do... I'm stuck either choosing cheap AMD, or I could go with much higher price to get the 2500.

By the way, whats the difference between the 2500 and the 2500k.?

Thanks
K means its unlocked, aka you can overclock it to your hearts content. Go with the 2500k, you can get the 60 dollar off deal at Microcenter, and many places are supposidly matching that deal now. Coming from a C2Q owner with a 6990, I can tell you that the CPU will bottleneck your GPU hard.
Cheers!
