Well for any title with DX10+, its Windows 7 hands down. Why? Because XP doesn't support DX 10, DX11, etc.

Old titles are definitely better played on Windows XP. Why? Because of compatibility issues and they were originally designed for XP or older, no need to run in Windows 7.

Really for any current title Windows 7 is the only way to go.

What FlawleZ said. You're not going to get the DX10/11 experience unless you get away from Windows XP.

Windows 98 was and still is a great gaming OS as long as you enjoy older games. I triple boot, 98SE/XP/7

You want Windows 7 Home 64 bit. You want Home because it has the least amount of requirements therefore you have more hardware to run your games. 64 bit because you want to be able to use more than 4GB of ram. And you get DX10 and DX11 capabilities along with the regular DX9 which most games use. XD

Many games are designed to run on the Windows Platform. So if you are playing a latest game then no doubt it will run well on your windows 7 & even in Vista. In my opinion those are the finest operating systems for gaming.

Windows 7 is great for gaming. However, for older titles it kinda sucks as there compatibility issues. So games that are designed to run on a 64bit OS will run best on Win7. Games designed for 32bit -XP.
