MX-4 worse than MX-2? - Page 2

It could be a bad batch. I heard that they had some problems with that early on. It could also just be the paste in the end of the tube. From what I've seen MX2 and MX4 perform the same.

I know it is old, and can conduct electricity. But thermal wise, is it out right terrible. Does it perform much worse than MX-4? And I mean more than 3c difference.

Not trying to sound like a males member, just curious.

The big thing with AS5 is that its capacitive. So you shouldn't use it on your chipset and you kind of need to be careful with it. Its also a PITA to clean up and that doesn't help when you need to be really careful with it to begin with. It also doesn't spread as easily as MX-2. I never saw the greatest performance with it compared to MX2 either. Its also not like its any cheaper than some of the better pastes out there.

There are better options out there now and have been for a long time now.

Okay, thanks for the info.

That's why I tried MX-4. Seemed newer and didn't conduct electricity. But I never thought AS5 was crap in regards to it's performance. Seemed to perform well.

Yeah, I went over to SkinneeLab and noticed the same thing. That's why I dug out the Vortez review. Hmmm. MX-2 was here. But MX-3 not released yet.

I dunno. Maybe MX-2 is 2c better than MX-4.

You are right it is about 3-5C worse, can kill your PC if you get it any where, cure time, and just isn't the "best" anymore and there is better alternatives for not much more.

NEVER use diamond! That stuff is harder then my.... biggrin.gif

IC Diamond and Antec formula 7 are in 4th/3rd places of the top of Thermal Compounds

1st and 2nd indigo xtreme and shin etsu

I don't notice a difference between MX2, MX4, and shin etsu. I did a back to back comparison between the three on an H50 and every core peaked at the same temp in Linx. IC diamond was just so hard my results were awful and started to rub off the lettering on the IHS in one mount.

I just buy MX-2 when its on sale since its cheap and performs well.

I'm really not surprised, MX-2 is already really good, if MX-4 is even better at all it will only be slightly. How much better can they really make thermal paste? Unless some new breakthrough discovery in thermal paste.
