Hey guys so if you look at my sig rig i have 470 sli, and i want to play bf3 in surround but unfortunatly the 1.2 gb of ram is killing me,

i can only play surround on medium settings, on a single screen ultra looks rediculous nice

i cant seem to find any benchmarks of the GTX580 SLI 3gb in bf3 surround

does anyone know if the game will actually get good fps if i get 2 of those cards???

With two 580 3GB in SLI, you will be able to play anything. There isn't a more potent two-GPU combo alive. Period.

Well, I'm curious: if you could run on Ultra, would you upgrade? If you couldn't, would you still upgrade, since it will be better than what you have? Or are you thinking of going 3x 580?

I spend a few minutes searching for benches, and I couldn't find anything for 2x SLI.

well you need x2 580's for ultra at 1080p. so take that for 3 monitors...

Sli 580 3gb is plenty enough or crossifre 6950/6970 2gb. I don't think BF3 is as demanding as Metro for example.

I did some quick math.

If you look at the Tom's Hardware BF3 article, you'll see that a single GTX 580 got around 33fps on ultra at 2560x1600 on their benchmark sequence. I looked up your monitor, and if it is indeed 1680x1050, you'll be pushing roughly 1.3 times the pixels with three of those monitors, of a 1600p monitor. If we assume the performance hit is linear, that is roughly 25fps average on your surround setup. If we again assume perfect SLI scaling, you'd see an average of 50fps; but since that's not the case (SLI in that article saw an average 75% scaling), you'll be well below 50fps at that resolution, on Ultra.

That's all very rough math, of course; nothing definitive. Not to mention you will be experiencing a heavily varying load in multiplayer. But I think it's safe to say that two 580s will not give a smooth gaming experience at that resolution. You could probably turn off the Deferred AA and get solid framerates; or buy three 580s; or just wait for 600-series cards (theoretically should be able to do this setup, smoothly, with two 680's or equivalent).

I call shenanigans...

EDIT: Now that I think about it, that's plausible... 80-100fps is what we're seeing with two 580s, IIRC. 40% seems a bit exaggerated. Screenshot?
