For the first time in a long time of watching multi-platform releases, I can say that BF3 DOES! Maps are bigger, and graphics are good enough to only be playable on the highest settings on a top-of-the-line system.

BF3 realistic.... wow... now I've heard it all. If you want realism, play Red Orchestra 2.

They're both arcade shooters with nade spamming and bunny hopping. COD is infantry only and the maps are very tiny. Little to no teamwork is required and people are rewarded with unbalanced power-ups when they get kill streaks.

BF generally requires more teamwork but you wont find much of that in public servers. BF was always about combined arms warfare with large maps having an equal emphasis on infantry and vehicles. Unfortunately, BF3 has less of that and feels a bit like COD (especially the Operation Metro map which has no vehicles and has people nade spamming for the middle capture point).

Overall, both series have degraded to the point of generic bland unplayability.

BF3 will be a better choice then MW3.

Easier to get into.
Less frustrating.
Better community.
Way less hackers.
Better post-release support.

learning curve is much higher for bf3 as its not a run and gun game and there is major recoil in some guns vs bf3 guns. you have to learn to control shots more
