Should I buy a Phenom II X4 830 or 840? 840 is $10 more, but I would like one that can overclock more etc. I will be using it in this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176 -

830 is better. It has an L3 cache, overclocks about the same, and is cheaper.
Once again...

yup yup I found the thread hehe I was just wondering about the motherboard and its overclockablility and what not. So far it's superb with 5830s cf and sempron 145 unlocked to dual core.

The mobo seems good, supports 1600 ram and 140W CPUs, the only thing is that the SB/NB is outdated by about 2 gens or so, dunno if that will make much a difference or not.

But can u get the 830 to 4.3Ghz? smile.gif by no means am I saying my 840 is faster than the 830 but I got it to overclock very very nicely and NO program I run has slowed it down whatsoever. of course I dont do any encoding or anything like that just saying. Go for the 830 but the 840 is a good option as well...

edit: Passmark score for 830 is 3,474 and the 840 is 3,754..... but for $10 less I guess go with the 830?
