Which HD Capture Card?

Thread Starter

Hello everyone! I'm looking for a capture card and these are the three that I am considering. If there is a better one for my needs feel free to mention it!

1) Black Magic - Intensity Pro
2) Hauppauge - Colossus
3) Avertv - HD DVR

I have 2 computers - and want to use one computer to stream and record the gameplay of the other.

Recording PC Specs:
X58 - Socket 1366 chipset
I7-960
SSD for boot/game
4 HD103SJ - 1 TB drives in raid 0 for storage/fraps
Radeon 5770

Gaming PC Specs:
p67 - Socket 1155 chipset
I7-2600k
SSD for boot/game
4 HD103SJ - 1 TB drives in raid 0 for storage/fraps
GTX 480

If I need to make any other upgrades, or swap out parts, I don't mind spending the money to make this work well.

What my question is: If I want the best capture card in terms of quality for recording at 1080p, what should I get.

I have not been able to find any true 1080p videos of these cards. The closest I find are 720p or 720i videos on youtube that are labeled 1080p - but when I watch them they are not even close to 1080p.

Here are my impressions so far for each capture card:
1) Black Magic - Intensity Pro
Can capture 1080p, however the video seems to be washed with a pretty severe green tint in all the videos I have seen.
2) Hauppauge - Colossus
No green tint, but cannot find any high resolution progressive or deinterlaced videos. Will this do 1080p or only 1080i and I will have to convert/deinterlace it to 1080p?
3) Avertv - HD DVR
Awesome colors, but doesn't have native 1080p support, only 1080i?
Here is a 1080i converted to 1080p video I found from the Avertv. It is not quite 1080p, but pretty close.

Any idea which capture card should I get if I want the best quality for both color and resolution?

I don't have any experience or insight into those models of cards, but I do have an old Hauppage PCI card (before HD) and it was very nice. Hauppage is also the most well known of those. I imagine they'll give you the best support. Hope that helps?
