SONY DVD Drive doesn't spin back up

Thread Starter
The problem is that my drive once it stops spinning the disc (idle/not reading for a while) it never spins it back up. It locks up whatever process (install) is running from it and if I am installing something it helps if I eject and reinsert the dvd.

Once it's spinning/reading/installing it works fine, but if the install process is vertifying something that makes the DVD drive idle for a while it stops the disc and when it tries to continue the setup it just locks up everything. Like I said it usually helps if I eject and reinstert the disc, the install continues. Otherwise it just makes noises (not spinning noises, but noises like the laser is moving a high pitch sssss like it's spinning a little)

Is there any way to make it not stop spinning?

I heard there is a DMA mode and another I don't remember, but I don't think that could be the problem?

Try a new sata cable if this doesn't fix it either rma it or replace it dvd drives are dirt cheap so don't stress it.

Thx for the response, but Sata cable is new (old one was the same thing) and I am pretty sure I can't rma it anymore, since it's about 2 years old...
I also don't want to buy a new drive, because I don't really use it all that much, so it wouldn't be worth it imo.

Just thought I would use a quick fix if there is some
