I'd definitely scrap the 2500k and go for the 8150. windows 8 is just around the corner, and 4 more cores will make a world of difference. CORES> THREADS

Firstly, it's been proven in multi treaded/ Multicored applications that the i5/i7 still outperforms.

Secondly, if he's gaming it's not the OS that's going to be controlling the amount of cores, it's the game that's been developed for multicore gaming. I.E Still no point.

He will be better off with the i5 tbh.

Ya get a chip that cant even handle multiple GPUs...rolleyes.gif

Ya BD might get better thread scheduling in Win 8. It might not. And just because it may get better scheduling doesn't mean that the Intels wont gain from that aswell.

And to top it all of on the above comment, the games will still rely on design of the game rather than the design of the OS.

Back on topic, keep the i5 - it works now, and will continue to work. As far as cpu cooling, h80 would be good. 212 evo loses a few deg. do the Noctua, but if you are not going for 5.0 24/7 would be a very economical way to go.
I also agree on the 6970 route. Outperforms the 570 and scales great when you add another. (Unless you plan on folding, in which I recommend finding a used 580 for the same amount as the 570 tf2).

Other than that, looks good.
It's so little!
