Requesting Upgrade Advice

Hello,

My Gainward 8800 GT just died after doing its job for nearly 4 years now and I'm therefore looking at a replacement.

Running a Q6600 clocked at a modest 3.25GHz with 4 Gig RAM and on a ASUS P5K PRO motherboard (built January 2008). Now my intention is to build a brand new computer early next year once the new Keppler GPU's are available for a decent price but I want to keep this one as well so my girlfriend can play Diablo 3 on it or whatever once I build my new computer.

I was thinking of purchasing a MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti 1GB PhysX Twin Frozr II but was wondering if perhaps the rest of my setup would bottleneck it and thus I perhaps should pick up something cheaper? Or could I even benefit from having a faster card than the 560?

Any input is appreciated.

THe one thing I would say is get the 2gb version, you might not use it today, maybe not tomorrow, and then you'll use it for the rest of your life.

I was under the impression that 2GB was really only necessary if you were gunning for resolution above 1080p?

I agree,

However, as newer games come out and things progress you might find that you use it. Besides, for the extra few bucks it costs vs the chances you'll replace your monitor with a 1080p at some point in the nearish future, it's worthwhile doing it now.
