Asus P5N-D OC abilities

Thread Starter
Quick question, how well can the P5N-D handle a Q9550? Will it be able to handle the FSB needed to get at least close to 4.0GHz?

No it would not be able to OC a Q9550 @ 4GHz..

For that OC on a Q9550 you need 471MHz FSB and that's too much for 750i chipset..

A FSB ~ 450MHz is a max on 750i chipset..

And also P5N-D has weak 4-Phase VRM design, w/o cooling, only 4pin CPU ATX connector so that would also hurt OC on a C2Quad (huge Vdroop)..

CHEERS..

Or P45

I already have EP45 UD3P, was trying to find some info and help someone with a folding rig so I don't think the 2 x16 PCI/e lanes matter. Thanks for the input though!

It's for the Team Competition so it would be just his Q9550 for a specific catagory. Otherwise yeah I can see it being good for folding on 2 gpu's.

I've gotten my P5N-D to 3.4 ghz stable on a Q9450, and did some modification using the vdroop mod to keep voltages in tow. Overall, not bad of a board, but then again, that was the first machine that I've ever OC'ed, and with newfound knowledge thanks to OCN, I've gotten a bit wiser at parts choosing.

Best of luck to you! You'll get some modest results, just not the biggest and baddest. I know that Gigabyte's offering during the 775 generation definitely shined the most with the FSB.
