[Techreport] New AMD Chipset in 2012

According to the latest slide leaked by Turkish site Donanim Haber, AMD is prepping two new Bulldozer chipsets for 2012. The 1090FX and 1070 will reportedly rely on a new SB1060 south bridge that serves up eight 6Gbps SATA ports. USB 3.0 support will also be offered with the 1090FX, but it looks like that feature didn't make the cut for the 1070. The 1070 also seems to be missing dual-x16 CrossFire support, another perk reserved for the 1090FX.

Before the bashing begins I know they are reporting a slide from DH but hey their has to be some truth to this and I believe it. Even when BD was close to launch I thought to myself AMD will release a chipset refresh in 2012 to better accommodate BD's new architecture. Plus if this is true....who doesn't want 8 native 6Gbps SATA ports?

Edit: I put in rumors since they are referencing a slide from DH. If mod thinks it should go to news that would be cool smile.gif

Native USB3 and stacks of Sata6 ports nice, but I do have to wonder what's so wrong with the 900 chipset...

Will be interesting to see the route AMD takes with this chipset. Budget build or Intel competition. Who's to say, hopefully it doesn't flop though... Markets are better when its competitive.

I wasn't expecting to see a new chipset so soon...though the hint doesn't hint at when in 2012...it could happen late in Q4.

If it does come sooner the only reason i could think of for the rush would be so they have a platform ready for the next CPU release...because I am sure they doing 60 hour weeks right now getting Piledriver ready so people start to forget about bulldozer

Seeing as the only difference between the 890FX and the 990FX was the south bridge and SLI license, I doubt you will find any reason to upgrade from the 990FX to the 1090FX. That is, unless you absolutely must have eight sata 3 ports.

EDIT: Although, now that I think of it, they could be getting this ready for the HD 7000's which are rumored to be PCI-Express 3.0. Maybe the 1090/1070 will offer 3.0 support?

Man it is taking forever for Intel and AMD to adopt the new standards. Glad to finally see native USB 3.0 support from AMD, and 8 SATA 3.0 ports is fantastic. Where's the PCI-E 3.0 though? I know it won't really affect the graphics industry much (well actually it might need it with a 7990 or 790), but it'd still be nice to see.
