Upgrade Me

Thread Starter
Hey OCN.

I want you to upgrade my rig so it is good to go on Skyrim and BF3.

If you could, tell me what's the greatest priority as well like; video card>cpu

As far as budget goes, this is a work in progress so I just need a general pipeline to follow. I am a man of quality and so are all(most) of you so I know all suggestions will be from reputable manufacturers.

So let me know what's going on! I've been at basic military training for like 3 months and wasn't really on the computer much before that. I'm counting on you to get me up to speed!

CPU needs to be upgraded first, any high end GPU will be held up by that CPU. Are you strictly AMD or do you hold no affiliation.
Standard gaming rig is i5-2500k, decently OCing motherboard, 8gb ram, and a GPU from the 5 series nVidia or the HD69xx series. On one monitor that should get you to high settings at a good FPS in both games.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

No affiliation I usually just make informed decisions based on data from these forums. Ahh I was hoping I wouldn't have to change chipsets But why the i5 instead of i7? Is it because the i7 is tailored for high end editing, converting, encrypting, etc? I would hate to buy an i5 just to learn that I'm being bottlenecked in a game.

the i5 is a fine cpu which is good enough when your going to game alone (the i7 is a bit overkill for only gaming, I think). I would recommend getting a i5 2500k because you can very high OC it, otherwise of you dont want to change your chipset, get a ph II x4 970 or higher which can run on a 790 chipset am2+

I beliave there isnt an official standard. For example for AMD die hard fans the standard is Bulldozer 8 core.

Forget AMD it brings a mood of depression they are nuts they build a triple core CPU with only 512 Kb cash why just to sell to some stupid users that think they've got a triple core CPU with $50 below the Intel dual 2 core .AMD is good for office it works like a cow in the field but now you can have Intel core i3 2100 3.1GHz for $117 and Intel DZ68DB BOARD WITH USB 3.0 AND SATA 6.0Gb/s for $124 , 2*2Gb DDR3 1333 RAM and low price Nvidia GT520 2Gb for $80 or much more expensive GTX520 but the GT520 is realy workable. That's it suldier , say hello to ur new gun

While i agree with the above posters, the i5/i7 series is great for gaming, the best bang for your buck is going to be a new gpu.

Your x3 @ 3.5-3.8ghz should be enough to feed up to a 6870/560ti in 90% of games. And at $170-200 a gpu will be massively cheaper than a new mobo, cpu, and gpu ($500 at the very minimum).

yeah, i7 is overkill for pure gaming, pretty much what Tduckro said you should follow. I don't have much experience with AMD cards so I can't speak to them as well, but for sure any NVIDIA card 5xx will get you going just fine, 560Ti seems to be a really popular choice around here.
