As long as you aren't getting anything better than a GTX 560ti, you should be fine for gaming. Your CPU will bottleneck in some games, but in most it will perform plenty. Since you are running 1080p, the graphics card is more important. If you are going for a high end single card setup, look into a PII x4 955. My setup runs BF3 on ultra with a noticeable FPS lag. Getting an i5-2500K is the best thing you can do if you don't mind getting a new mobo and reinstalling your OS.

CPU

so get a Phenom II CPU, I recommend a 960T because: low TDP = higher OC and possible unlock to an X6. then a 6950 for the GFX or wait till 7000 series and get a 7950 which according to the 6990 < 7970 news thread, should be 2x better than the 6950.

Corsair, OCZ, and Antec are all good PSU brands IMO, I haven't tried Corsair but everyone praises them so much that I have to give them credit.

4 GB ram is pretty much the minimum requirement for games nowadays, 8 GB is standard, 12 GB is overkill, and people with 16 are just plain ignorant.

Good Mobo brands are MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte, ASRock is good too but is not as good as the others. Alot of people give MSI a bad rep for crap VRMs but I have used MSI boards for 4 years and never had a problem. ASUS seems to be fickle at times and from my experience you had to have everything set up just right for them to want to post or boot up. Gigabyte I don't know much about since just yesterday I got my new CPU/PSU and was able to test it out, it works good and overclocking is easy, BIOS seem to differ from ASUS and MSI but they have alot of cool features

Well thats all the info I can give you at the top of my head.

Welcome back from Basic Training. I hope all went well! As for what to consider a priority I would agree with some of the others but also add a note. If you plan upgrading to a nice Nvidia GTX/ATI HD card in I would not keep it in that small Antec 300. Before my last couple of builds I used one with a GTX 470 and I will tell you it isn't fun putting it in. The smaller of the cards being a GTX 560 roughly 9 inches and larger of the recommended like the 6950/70 are anywhere from 10.1-11.5 inches long depending on memory. The 470 was right at 9.5 Inches and almost didn't fit inside the case. I would go with the Antec 900 or HAF 912 personally but if you prefer to keep the case you have just to keep in mind you are not going to fit anything over 11 inches without having to cram the thing in and I would not starve a card you just spent 200+ dollars on.

Thread Starter
Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy the past few days. So would it be safe to assume that if I picked up a 560ti off newegg and maybe another set of gskills that I could run BF3 on high? I just want it to blow the Xbox version out of the water ya know? Also to whoever said to pick up a PhII chip; I have one! its the 720be unlocked via ACC on my mobo to a quad core. I have a xigmatek on my board but I haven't gotten to push an OC yet. What does OCN think? ALSO before I forget, is there still a rule of thumb about having all 4 RAM modules filled up on an AMD board? Like for some reason I think i remember that it would bug out the integrated mem controller or something back on 939 boards. Is this still accurate?
