Are my cards shorted?

Thread Starter

A month ago my computer did this:

I didn't know what it was, so I RMA'd my PSU. New PSU in, same thing. I bought a new motherboard, and now hooked it all up, worked. Put the graphics cards in. Same thing! Either card does the same exact thing.

Now when I first got that symptom, it's when I got my 2nd 580, and tried to SLI them. Then that happened. And that's where the RMA process began. I'll keep trying, but does it look like I have to send both of my cards to EVGA?

Great, now I'm going to miss the launch of Skyrim.

I just tried turning one with just one card, testing both. Both do this flicker thing.

Do this:

Remove all the PCIe cables from PSU and from 580s.

If I am not mistaken the connector with "PCIe" printed should go to PSU, if not reverse it and 4 of them must have uniform orientation. Though it looks the same you must not reverse it. The ends that go to PSU should not go to the card or vice versa. All 4 PCIe cables Make sure they are firmly connected.

Give it a try, you should be fine now.

It WORKED! Canceling RMA now.

I'm just having trouble recognizing DVI. I used to have this, dunno why this happens.

How did you connect your monitor? Using adapter or native DVI? What resolution? Surround?

Uninstall Forceware, reseat the card. Run Driver Sweeper if you want to. Resintall Forceware and give it another try.

Can't see anything. Monitor just goes "DVI No Signal" thinking it's not plugged in. Tried both slots in main 580.

It's a DVI to DVI, not adapter, I run at 1920x1080 resolution. Monitor is just not showing. I'll try reseating the DVI.

Tried my other DVI cable, still same results.

Tried my other DVI cable, nothing.

The monitor just isn't getting the signal. I had this problem when I first built the computer, and a restart fixed it. Nothing now though.

Enjoy the games.

Note: must turn PC and monitor off before unplug/plug connection.
