Its deeper than you think. There needs to be a study on why people buy games like madden and COD every single year with little or no innovation being done at all. Is it peer pressure? it doesn't make any sense

So I'm guessing your another person who says things that are completely false. Have you played MW3 at all? If so you wouldn't be saying that.
Its also annoying when someones skimps over my post and quotes it with a meaningless reply that in no way refelects the statement I was making.

DICE did this for BFBC2 with the Vietnam Expansion. The difference? It was $15.

It just sucks to see this many iterations of a game go buy without any significant advances. It makes consumers feel as if they are being played.
That's different though, that's an expansion pack, not a whole new engine.

People need to put the fanboyism aside. It doesn't matter whether you like BF3 or MW3 more. Really, it doesn't.

I am going to say this again: this game is 99.9% at the core something I already played back in 2007 is what makes me sick. I refuse to reward Activision's complete lack of innovation with my hard-earned money.

Yes, the single player is usually pretty decent in CoD games - but it's the same scripted formula. The only interest I have in this game is seeing how the plot unfolds, and honestly i'll just wait for YouTube vids to find that out. It's the simple fact that this game offers nothing extraordinary or compelling at all, period. The exact same experience can be had in every iteration of this franchise since CoD 4. Same gameplay. Same game mechanics. Same engine. Apparently, same textures, which weren't even great to begin with.

The only thing that stands out is what...the UI/menu? I mean, the weapons and maps are just...re-skinned. From what i've seen, they've even re-used a lot of the UI elements and textures from past CoD games...and people want to dish out $60 for this crap? No, really. I am completely and utterly perplexed at how people gobble this up like it's something new and exciting.

I've been a Battlefield player since BF1942, and i've been a CoD player since the first one and I absolutely LOVED CoD4 - but let's be honest here. Both franchises are allowed to re-use the same winning formula, but at the very least, DICE went above and beyond and tried to push the envelope in terms of graphics, sound, immersion, etc. with BF3. I did not, for one second, ever feel like Activision gave an iota of crap at any of that when looking at MW3 - it feels and looks EXACTLY like CoD 4, MW2, WaW, BO. This game was a game recycled PURELY for profit, without a single care as to how gamers would receive it because it bears the CoD name.

I know people hate change, but good lord - where is the desire to see some innovation or progress? People on this forum cry left and right about the majority of games being consolized/ports, and games like MW3 are EXACTLY the reason why - and yet those same people buy this crap year after year. I'll never understand it.

Sports games: rosters, player stat progressions, game schedules, management options, tweaks, music, etc. People love rooting for their favorite club/team/player(s).

COD: Single player. Multiplayer and they just like playing that style of game? People don't really fawn over technical specs or know anything about API specs.

I was talking to some young kids that are 10 years old and under. They all wanted MW3 and never even heard of BF. That was all I needed to know.

I think it also begs saying that I'm not a "CoD hater" or a "BF fanboy". I loved earlier CoD, like most people. Compared to Medal of Honor (an straight up action shooter) and BF1942 (a purely multiplayer title), CoD provided a refreshing new look for WWII shooters. CoD 2 improved that, and was IMO by far the best 360 launch title. CoD 3's SP stank, but I definitely put a decent number of hours into its MP. CoD 4 was undoubtedly a masterpiece. In a time when Halo 3 seemed the focus of everyone's attention, it managed to sell extremely well and get incredible reviews. It played like nothing on console before. It had a believable, genuine storyline and was a great package.

And now we're still at the same place we were in 2007. Activison saw the money CoD 4 brought in, and won't stop recycling the same game until sales start drying (and they look to be just as strong so far).

I don't "hate" CoD or Infinity Ward. I hate lack of innovation, and market stagnation. Like most people, I find myself just hating publishers in general.

For people like me who have never played Battlefield or Call of Duty, this doesn't matter much. Both will be a new experience for me.

People need to go back and play CoD and CoDuo to realize how great they were, best games in the series. CoD4 actually was innovative and new, just like the original. If you have played all the games in the CoD series you will realize these last three have been quite terrible and just regurgitated.
