Q6600 vs Unlocked Athlon X3 450 - Page 3

Go with the AMD and throw in another 4 GB's worth of memory. DDR2 is way too expensive to warrant an old system upgrade when the DDR3 is so much cheaper. Unless you're looking for the smaller differences between the two, it won't matter as much for you.

I'd pick the Q6600. Either setup is going to perform about the same, but the motherboard on the Intel setup is much MUCH stronger. The 760G that you have on the AMD setup won't handle that chip unlocked and overclocked at all.

Although if you got a better board for the AMD (which can be found), the AMD would win.

I'd keep the AMD, upgrade the board, and maybe get another stick of RAM for dual channel.

Yeah sadly the board is crap. I needed another computer real quick, so I grabbed a Newegg Shell Shocker deal on a Bare Bones PC. The case and power supply are pretty bad as well. I think my graphics card weighs more than the whole AMD computer. The power supply is probably going to be my only upgrade for the "weaker pc", so I can toss my old 8800GT in it for my broke brother.

performance is about the same at 2.7 vs 3.2GHz...
you can go either way,

also if you could overclock the q6600 a bit more things could change,
q6600 is faster at the same clock,

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/778-14/moyenne.html
this test can be e reference, look at the q6700 (2.66GHz) vs the 645 (3.1GHz) both a re only slightly slower than the options you are considering here
