Cooler + Casing question (Delta Fans)

Thread Starter
Guys, I'm planning to go with the Corsair 400R casing.

Since i'm not too keen on liquid cooling, i thought of maximizing the air cooling ability of my system.

Current Processor is an i5 2500k
Current motherboard is an asus P8Z68-V

I just sold my coolermaster silencio 550 casing earlier today.

Now I am looking for a casing that would allow me to mount a few more fans to cool my cpu efficiently.

My idea is:

Front Intake: 2 x Artic F12 PWM fans
Top Exhaust: 1 x Delta Fan (Up to 4000rpm) + 1 x Artic F12 PWM fan
Rear Exhaust: 1 x Artic F12 PWM fan
Cpu Cooler: Hyper212 plus + 2x Delta Fans (Up to 4000rpm) @ suck + blow config

What do you guys think of this configuration? Should it be able to cool my components?

I will be overclocking my processor up to 4.5Ghz . Ambient temperate would range around 28 Celsius to 33 Celsius.

I think using PWM is a good idea. Though I'm not sure the Arctic fans are the best for this, I also don't know what's available in Malaysia.

You won't be too happy adding the Deltas to your 212+. They will shriek hideously. If you want to use fans that push so much air, get a heatsink that can benefit from them. The TR Silver Arrow will fit two 120x120x38mm fans.

True, If I'm going the delta route, PWM is needed. I've heard about the monstrous shrieks of the Delta fans, but i believe i should be able to keep the noise at bay. At least I'd purchase a sound dampener sheet and cover the casing with it.

Other than that, i shall control the speeds of the fan. From surveying online, there is only one seller with a delta fan that pushes up to 4000rpm. It is not a PWM fan however.

I might have to source these fans from international retailers. The shipping cost is USD40 it self. That is why, i need to know if these fans would be effective enough to cool my components.

Edit: Found this fan from a different seller that is based in Malaysia:-

Nidec Beta V 120mm x 120mm HI-Speed Cooling Fan

Specification:
Brand : Nidec
Connector Type : 4 pin
Compatibility : Application for 120mm Fan Hole
Fan Speed : 4500 - 5500 rpm
Voltage Input : DC12V 0.49A

4 Pin = PWM yes?

If so, would this be a good buy?

I don't mind the noise really.

4-pin may also be what we call Molex. That is the large plug used to get power from the power supply unit. Generally any 4000+ rpm fan will make much noise.

Thanks ehume.

I guess you're right. The 4pin could be a molex connector. If this was connected to the psu, then the fan would run at full speed correct?

Is there anything i could do, to modify it, so its speed could be controlled?

If this is a PWM fan you can hook it up to Molex for power (gnd and 12v), hook up the third wire to report the rpm of each fan, and hook up the fourth wire of all the fans to the fourth prong of your cpu fan header to send them higher and lower as the cpu temp demands. You know, "one header to rule them all . . . "

Thank you Ehume.

What if i get a fan controller? Could i control the speed then if its not a PWM fan? I heard that fan controllers control the voltage of the fan but i'm not quite sure.

Hey Avngl:
Check out this thread to get an overview of high-cfm Fans that can be easily controlled by PWM from your mobo. It's a huge amount of info, but it's worth it if you're planning to beeing prepared to rule the strongest fans in the world.
Its quite good to collect much information since there are several high-cfm-fans which use "inverted PWM", that means the fans running faster and faster by turning the controller knob down. Connected to the mobo's fan header you might have nit the result you had whished.

I'm involved in this thread and had built some custom controllers, now it is easy to bring even 6000 rpm-fans to satisfying silence. :-)

btw.: It ist nearly impossible to control a 4000+ rpm-fan to be silence without using pwm-functionality.
