Upgrade from AMD to 2500k? Thoughts?

Thread Starter
So back in August, I built my sig rig, eager with the excitement of building my own computer and happy to have something fairly powerful. I got an AM3+ motherboard, as I (naively) thought Bulldozer would be great and I could upgrade to that and everything would be lovely.

Unfortunately, as we all know, that wasnt to be, and now I'm here, I have itchy feet and I want to move away from this 955 I had as a sort of BD placeholder.

I've got an offer of £75 for the 955 and £80 for my GA-990XA-UD3 motherboard (£155 altogether) and I'm seriously thinking about going with a 2500k and a corresponding motherboard.

So couple of questions, do you think it would be a good idea to swap sides, and if not, why not? And also can you lovely peoples reccomend a nice SB motherboard, preferably around the £100 price mark, give or take £20?
Preferably should be able to support crossfire, and well, not much else really

If its helpful I mainly use my PC for gaming, but I also do the occasional video editing and 3D work for school.

My current setup is in my signature, if you want to see what I have at the minute and perhaps suggest something else.

Anything else you need to know please ask, and any and all help is greatly appreciated

PS. Really hope I've put this in the correct section, please dont shoot me if I havent
Alan.

I basically am in the same position as you. Hoping BD would be good enough, but since it is not, I am going to try a 2500K.

Still not sure myself on what board to get (and need to sell some stuff first).

If you go to Sandy bridge, get either a Z68 board, or a Gen 3 P67 board that way you can be ready for Ivy.

I made the switch from a 1090T and the difference was night and day. So happy i switched

Its a shame really, I was really hoping AMD could pull it off, but things just don't go to plan :/

I would do this, but the offer on my current setup is sort of a limited time and I dont know if ill be able to get the same sort of deal again...

I really do want to go sandy, and the ivy bridge processors also sound attractive. Do you happen to know if this board will support Ivy?

hey..don't feel bad,d00d..i sold a 2500k 1 week before BD release..i was certain it would be good..er..never again..i learned my lesson..btw..2500k and ssd..is very nice :: i like the mobo i have..but..it would only be good for dual videocards IF one had a full-tower where the mobo is raised up from the bottom..or dual-slot-only videocards(there's like..3 1/2 inches from the cpu socket to the 1st pcie x16 slot)..other than that..it's solid for $124..can't beat it!
