How to turns off the core temp sensor Athlon 2 x3 450

Thread Starter
Hey guys, after months of trying to unlock my Athlon 2 x3 i think i finally figured out what the problem is: the core temperature sensor is still active after unlock but its faulty -shows 66-67c- and my CPU downclocks even tho the 4th core is good. How the hell can i turn off the sensor? The only way i'm gonna be able to keep the multi at x16 is if i'm going to use watercooling (i'm not) cause the idividual core temp is adding about 40C to the actual temp of the cpu so it goes into "safemode". Has anybody experinced active core temp sensor after unlock? if so, were the readings acurate?

Try turning off C1E, CnQ and Spectrum, they most likely disable the downclock... but sensor remain "working". I used to run a 9600 at over 80c at full speed like that.

C1E and CnQ disabled since the first time i tried it. If by spectrum u mean spread spectrum then thats disabled too. Just need to trick that sensor and i'm good. As long as it stays under 65c my CPU runs at normal speed unlocked but as soon as i stress it just a little bit temp goes to 66-67 and there goes my frequency...

You have a stock cooler. The stock cooler struggles to keep the chip in spec at stock.
With a 125 watt chip it overheats.
Try disabling smart fan in the bios (will make fans connected to mobo run at full speed.)

"Core Temp" has no sensor, it's an equation. However, the motherboard has a sensor in the socket, aka "Socket/CPU" temp that already reads 7-10C higher than actual temp and it's the motherboard that downclocks the CPU. Some motherboards allow you to adjust this value or disable it all together. Having said all that, when you successfully unlock a CPU, the AMD Core Temp equation is disabled, so your core is defective - one of the reasons they were locked to begin with.

Your problem is cpu running too hot. Disabling temperature safety features will only end up you making new thread with my pc doesn't boot anymore topic.

Issue with athlon II x3 unlocking is that first core temps doesn't work because of acc/core unlocker and second vcore in auto mode is way too high and that with stock cooling means multi drops because too much heat.

Two things you need to do.
1. Get better cpu cooler
2. undervolt vcore. Drop vcore a bit and then start stressing with prime95 or occt. Do that untill your multi doesn't drop anymore and you can run full speed prime95/occt test session. One way is to underclock aswell. My athlon x3@4 works with 1.125 vcore at 2.6ghz with stock cooler and it's silent aswell. Or just run it as x3.

Thx for all the replies. About me burning my CPU - i've been messing with overclocking since before temperature safety guards existed on PCs. If my mobo reads 30c then i know its not 66c. Also i'm starting to see a trend that limits the freedom I have tinkering with my pc:

-even if i disable smart fan tthe cpu fan still won't go go to 6k rpm only if the VRM temp is too high.
-Can't disable safety features! - i know this is good for most people but they cause more damage than good in my case.

About the solutions, new cooler is a good idea, i know it would help but i still dont think i'll be able to make up for the retarded reading of 65c in idle.

Undervolting is also good but i need help with that, i figured it would help and already tried it before making the thread but i don't know what freq for what vcore. I only got to 2.9 and it didn't help much...keep in mind that faulty reading is showing 65c when the actual temp is 30c MAX! dry ice? )

Problem solved! Found a tool that edits P-states called K10stat. I edited P-state 3 (multi at x4) to match my wanted voltage and frequency and it works. Max Cpu temp 58C with the 4th core unlocked. Also did a little undervolting from 1.35 to 1.33. As you can see from the picture below the actual core temp is not displayed corectly so no matter what cooler i would have bought the unlock would have been imposible. The only downside is i have to start k10stat and hit apply every time i start my pc.

Note: I have multiple fans in the case, the reason they don't show up is they're connected to a different PSU.
