Good. Needs to happen.

How to make a COD game:

1. Spend millions on media hyping, advertising, and game cinematic trailers.
2. Add 2 new guns to gameplay.
3. Add in a new area to fight in, as long as they have a foreign accent.
4. Make people feel like they are cool, by adding in ranks that include skulls, and whatnot.
5. Change the texture packs out so the game has a new "look" and better "graphics"
6. Make a dozen foes rush the charactor at once so they feel like they are constantly at war. Be sure to include lots of war shouting like "Hold the front!" or "RPG! Get down!"
7. Rake in billions of dollars of fools money for a game you have been making for the past 6 years, then charge people even more to be "elite" idiots.

They don't rate it 0 because that's what it's worth, they rate it a 0 because they want to be heard.

Wow, maybe the COD fanboys are finally coming to their senses. You figured you would've thought by Black Ops they would've caught on to the rehash trend....4th times the charm?

COD isn't all bad, it just doesn't deserve the following its become accustomed to...which just leaves them to having been taken advantage of and not necessarily earned in recent releases.

For the record, I prefer BF3, as I did BC2, and BF2, but just saying... COD series is a good time and its not in the same league as BF... simple because one is an arcade shooter, and one is tactical/teamplay based.

So... Flame on.
That's the whole problem here, many of the critics went after BF3 for being unimaginative and not really bringing anything new to the table when it comes to the campaign. Yet, the same critic will turn around and say that MW3 is like the other two installments of the series, brings nothing but same old same old, but will strangely praise it. (IGN and gamespot are two that come to mind)
I enjoy CoD, it's great to unwind, and play a couple of quick rounds before skipping out, but I feel that BF3 offers so much more when it comes to content in the multi-player side of things (and graphic wise). BF3 is not a perfect game, honestly I think it rates at 8/10, because of the graphical improvements and the sheer value of the game, and I feel that MW3 is somewhere near the 7.5/10, as it contains the elements that made the CoD series fun, but it's nothing more than a over the average shooter these days.

Critic vs. User reviews. DNF wasn't as bad as the critics made it out to be and it shows in the user reviews. It was at least somewhat distinctive. On the other hand, I think COD is getting the correct score from the users.
I don't even look at gaming review sites anymore. They are inflated/deflated and complete FUD.

The guy who paid $1700 for a copy must be raging.

Not to mention the "masked bandits" that stole 6000 copies, which they may never sell now, or sell at a very fail price lol

If the game works, has acceptable graphics and gameplay, but zero innovation, a professional reviewer would probably give it a 5 or a 6, at most a 7. Never an 8 or a 9. But that is precisely what is happening.

You have to factor that when you are talking about a franchise that is released every year, you can't just realistically continue giving those scores for a game that is essentially the same thing.

Do I understand the gamer's frustration and low scores ? Of course. Go look at COD 4: MW user scores, and then compare them with MW2 and Black OPs. People do have a sense of quality, they just don't have a professional sense of rating, that is all.

If they were professionals that were to assess the game from a more global perspective - including the newcomer who has never played a COD game before, they would of course give it a higher score also based on the merit of the game alone. The gamers who are rating the game are much more into it because they don't have to give any professional assessment. They have previous versions of the game, and this one doesn't add much to the experience.

The game engine isn't getting much better, and they're including less new content each time. They're repackaging last year's Christmas gifts as new gifts.

Only, they're not gifts, they're games we have to buy to keep playing with our friends and family, because as user statistics show, it's all but impossible to find people to play MWF1 with.

This is why people are mad, they're being forced to fork out cash for the same game just to get matches quickly.
